Warning: Major Spoilers for Alien: Romulus below!During the finale ofAlien: Romulu, a Xenomorph ends up saving the life of Cailee Spaeny’s Rain, but its motives aren’t exactly heroic. TheAlienmovie franchisewasn’t in great shape following the critical and commercial letdown ofCovenantin 2017. It was the job of Fede Alvarez’sRomulusto wipe the slate clean and get audiences excited about the property again. On that front,Alien: Romulus' box office successand positive critical response (it currently sits at 80% onRotten Tomatoes) suggests the latest sequel has done exactly that.
The big question is where will the franchise go next?Alien: Romulus' endingsuggests that survivors Rain and Andy (David Jonsson) could return for a future misadventure, though outside of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley, the saga has struggled to keep the same protagonists beyond a single entry. Rain will no doubt want to keep as far away from Xenomorphs or the Engineer’s Black Goo as humanly possible too, so creating a credible scenario where she returns would be tricky.

The Xenomorph Prevented Rain’s Death In Alien: Romulus' Elevator Scene
Why did “Scorched” save Rain from certain death?
DuringRomulus' finale, Rain and Andy work together to escape the Renaissance space station before it crashes. This involves a setpiece where they ascend a large elevator shaft with Xenos in hot pursuit. Unfortunately for Rain, a gravity purge at the wrong moment causes her to fall down the shaft as Andy looks on helplessly. After dropping for a few seconds,Rain is saved by the “Scorched” Xenomorph, who wraps its tail around her and gently lifts her to a nearby ladder.
“Scorched” earned its distinctive scar and nickname from an earlier scene where Bjorn (Spike Fearn) tried to kill it with a stun baton in its cocoon.

Of course, Rain is far from safe, with more Xenomorphs and Facehuggers climbing up to claim her. It’s only when Andy drops the malfunctioning elevator car from above and crushes most of them that she earns breathing room. “Scorched” survives this, however, andAlien: Romulus’heroine soon discovers why the beast became her unlikely savior.
Why The Xenomorph Wanted Rain Alive
“Scorched” wanted Rain to receive a big hug
Both Romulus and past Alien movies have established that a Xeno will take a human host alive if at all possible.
Devotees of the series don’t have to worry about the Xenos becoming heroic since the movie revealsthat “Scorched” saved Rain so a Facehugger could attack her. BothRomulusand pastAlienmovies have established that a Xeno will take a human host alive if at all possible. While Rain wiped out many of the creatures with a Pulse Rifle, by the time she falls down the elevator shaft she is unarmed, so “Scorched” saw the potential to grab her and bring her back to the station’s hive.

Every Upcoming Alien Movie & TV Show After Romulus
There will be further installments in the popular long-running science fiction horror franchise after the 2024 theatrical hit Alien: Romulus.
If it wasn’t for Andy’s timely intervention with the Pulse Rifle, Rain would have been implanted with a Xeno embryo and likely died when the station crashed. Had Rain put up a fight “Scorched” probably would have killed her on the spot too, but once it grabs her, she doesn’t try to defend herself against it. Thankfully, Rain’s android brother was looking out for her from above, andAlien: Romulus' main characters live to fight another day.
