Theending ofThe White Lotusseason 3, episode 1continued what the show is best known for: slowly unraveling the mysteries and secrets of its central characters.The White Lotusseasons 1 and 2 were both known for this, as is season 3, which shows no sign of changing the character archetypes that permeate the show that will likely continue inThe White Lotusseason 4.
One of the focuses ofThe White Lotusseason 3 - and a potential victim- is Carrie Coon’s Laurie. Laurie is shown visiting the titular hotel chain alongside two childhood friends, Jaclyn and Kate, both of whom live lavish, well-off lifestyles. In the final scene showcasing this sect ofThe White Lotusseason 3’s cast, Laurie retires to her room early, watching Kate and Jaclyn from her window. She suddenly breaks down crying after this, with the events of the episode hinting at exactly why she could not contain her emotions any longer.
Laurie Feels Like The Odd One Out

Before Laurie goes up to her room alone, the three girls are shown having various conversations about their lives. More aptly,Jaclyn and Kate converse between themselves, often leaving Laurie out and only addressing her as an afterthought. Jaclyn and Kate are regularly shown calling each other beautiful and successful, praising several different aspects while relating to each other due to them both being women who have easygoing lives financially.
After doing so, the two turn their attention - admittedly reluctantly - to Laurie. They simply say that everything Laurie does is so difficult and that she is impressive, also stating that her daughter is turning into a"really cool girl.“The lack of enthusiasm in Jaclyn and Kate’s compliments to Laurie, as well as the general understated nature of what they are praising her for in comparison to each other, caused her outburst of emotions.Laurie feels excluded by the two and her self-esteem will certainly not be boosted by the different way they treat herinThe White Lotus.
The White Lotus Season 3 Is Setting Up A Big Fallout Between Laurie, Kate & Jaclyn
The Show Is Building To A Confrontation
As has long been the formula ofThe White Lotus, this storyline will undoubtedly come to a head in future episodes.The White Lotusexcels at taking seemingly smaller plots and making them into huge, consequential moments for the lives of its characters, with season 3 teasing it will be no different. Where Laurie is concerned, the hints that she is unhappy with her friends' treatment of her seem to be building towards a fallout between the trio.
Laurie was also shown to drink a lot inThe White Lotusseason 3, which will certainly not help her keep a lid on her feelings. Eventually, Laurie will likely confront Jaclyn and Kate. What outcome this will have remains to be seen, butThe White Lotusseason 3 is unlikely to show Jaclyn and Kate learning the errors of their ways, as the show tends to focus on less desirable people in the name of more intense and explosive character drama.
