In that episode, Akilah, Shauna Shipman (Sophie Nélisse), and Van Palmer (Liv Hewson) all experience visions after being exposed to the gas in the cave where Coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger) is hiding. With encouragement from Lottie Matthews (Courtney Eaton), Akilah returns to the cave inYellowjacketsseason 3, episode 5.

Akilah’s visionof Coach Ben convinces her that he is a"bridge"that will lead the Yellowjackets home, meaning he must be kept alive. In episode 6, keeping Coach Ben alive becomes torturous for all involved, including force-feeding him against his will. This distresses Akilah and makes her concerned that she may have missed something in her visions. She returns to the cave with Lottie, and she does see something new, and possibly even stranger than seeing Coach Ben as a bridge.

Why Does Akilah Have A Vision Of A Three-Eyed Bear In Yellowjackets Season 3?

The Third Eye Is Likely Symbolic

In her latest vision, Akilah sees her fellow survivors dancing, only to disappear. A bear then emerges, and as it roars, the creature grows a third eye. In spiritual terms, a third eye often symbolizes the ability to see beyond what is on the surface and to have deep insight and knowledge. Since Lottie starts having visions again by the end of episode 6, the three-eyed bear may have been foreshadowing this, withthe third eye symbolizing Lottie regaining her full connection with the wilderness.

Yellowjackets Makes Lottie’s Most Mysterious Visions From Season 1 Extremely Tragic

Visions that Lottie Matthews had in Yellowjackets season 1 are now more tragic due to what happens to her in the present-day timeline.

Since it is Akilah having the vision, and not Lottie, the third eye may also be a sign of affirming the validity of what Akilah is seeing. Even Akilah has mentioned how the visions are hallucinations caused by the gas and that they may not mean anything. The third eye could be a refutation of that and a way of telling Akilah that the visions do have meaning. Akilah has a special connection with animals, which could also explain why a bear is used to communicate this message to her.

Could Akilah’s Vision Connect Back To Yellowjackets Season 1’s Bear Heart Sacrifice?

Two Iconic Lottie Moments Involve A Bear

Yellowjacketsseason 1’s endingsees Lottie killing a sick bear with a knife. She later takes the bear’s heart and places it on a tree stump as part of a sacrifice in honor of the wilderness. It is possible that Akilah’s three-eyed bear vision connects back to what happened with the bear during season 1. Lottie killing the bear is the moment that many of the other survivors began to believe in her visions and to see her as a powerful, influential member of the group.

Just like with Coach Ben, Akilah’s vision is poised to make an impact that will change the fates of other characters inYellowjacketsseason 3.

Just as Lottie needed to kill the bear then, perhapsthe three-eyed bear is foreshadowing that Lottie will need to kill someone else in the near future. Except for the survivors who are inYellowjackets' present-day timeline, Lottie could end up killing any other member of the group. The two new characters played by Nelson Franklin and Ashley Sutton, who appear at the end of episode 6, could also be in danger. Just like with Coach Ben, Akilah’s vision is poised to make an impact that will change the fates of other characters inYellowjacketsseason 3.
