The Energon Universe is gearing upfor war, as the original creators of theTransformershave entered the world of Skybounder Entertainment’s original seriesVoid Rivals, and they seem intent on taking their ultimate revenge. The Quintessons have arrived at the Sacred Ring, and the ramifications for Skybound’s newTransformers/G.I. Joecontinuity could be absolutely massive.
Void Rivals#14 – written by Robert Kirkman, with art by Lorenzo De Felici – ends with theQuintessons arriving in a familiar-looking corkscrew-shaped shipwithin the orbit of the Sacred Ring.

As the ship appears on panel, the many-faced Quintesson Judge confirms the homeworld of the warring Agorrians and Zertoniansis the Ring of Zerta, or Zerta-Trion, the mysterious new character who was expelled from Cybertron eons ago and is now worshipped by the Zertonians– a lore drop that could have major ramifications for the overall trajectory of the Energon continuity moving forward.

TheQuintesson Judge first appearedin the Energon Universe inVoid Rivals#5, where readers learned that the ancient race of aliens was very interested in the Sacred Ring. Considering that the Quintessons are traditionally portrayed as the original inhabitants of Cybertron, who created the Transformers as their servants, it’s safe to assume that theQuintessons arriving at the Sacred Ring is a major event that will reverberate across the whole of the Energon Universe. Most intriguing of all is the idea of the Quintessons seeking revenge against Zerta-Trion, who the Quintesson Judge refuses to refer to by name.
The Quintessons first appeared in 1986’sTransformers: The Movie.Their history with Cybertron and the Transformers would be expanded upon further in the third season of theTransformerscartoon, and now seems to be shaping up to play a pivotal role in the Energon canon.

Little is known aboutZerta-Trion at this point in the Energon Universe, other than that she is worshipped by the Zertonians and is a crucial piece of the Sacred Ring’s history. Autobot Springer revealed that Zerta-Trion was an ancient Cybertronian who broke away from her brethren after gaining independence from their creators (who readers can assume will still be the Quintessons). While Zerta-Trion hasn’t been seen on-panel yet inVoid Rivals, she has been communicating with lead character Solila, who has ventured to the deepest depths of the Sacred Ring to find Zerta herself.
