This excitingStar Warstheory suggests thatLuke Skywalker’svery first Jedi apprentice might finally be revealed in the next to be released ofStar Wars’upcoming TV shows,Star Wars: Skeleton Crew.Luke’s Jedi Templeremains minimally explored on screen inStar Wars. Although it has appeared inThe Book of Boba Fettand was very briefly depicted at various points throughout theStar Warssequel trilogy, it has yet to be shown at its height, with Padawan learners and Luke Skywalker in the role of a true Jedi Master.

The closestStar Warsmovies and TV showshave come to representing Luke training an apprentice was his short-lived stint training Grogu, who ultimately walked away from the path of a Jedi and chose instead to go with Din Djarin, who adopted him and took him on as his Mandalorian apprentice. Because Luke Skywalker is still highly beloved and considered one ofStar Wars’best characters, there is plenty of interest in finally seeing him take on a true apprentice. Now,Skeleton Crewmay offer viewers exactly that, based on this theory.

Is Jude Law’s Character REALLY A Jedi At All?

Very little is currently known aboutJude Law’s character inSkeleton Crew. In theSkeleton Crewtrailer,Law’s character, named Jod Na Nawood, is referred to as a Jedi, and he is confirmed to be Force-sensitive. Writer forSkeleton CrewChristopher Ford also stated that the show’s intention was to make a"whole new kind of a Jedi."

Signs currently point to Jude Law being a Jedi, but, as has been proven time and again, looks can be deceiving inStar Wars, especially before a show or movie debuts. The only people who have directly referred to Nawood as a Jedi in the trailers are the children who are lost in the galaxy and (presumably) being helped by Nawood. It’s quite possible that the kids associate any Force-user with a Jedi, particularly as this is set duringthe New Republic timeline, when the Jedi weren’t nearly as well-known or understood as they were in the prequel trilogy era.

The time in whichSkeleton Crewis set intheStar Warstimelineis also interesting because it’s a bit surprising that, if Nawood is a Jedi, he has gone undetected for so long. There were so few Jedi at that time, that it’s odd no one seems to have known or at least has never mentioned him. This also raises a host of other questions, including who was his Jedi Master. While not a direct giveaway that he isn’t a Jedi, it’s also notable thataction figures of the character do not include a lightsaber, at least so far.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew: Cast, Story & Everything We Know

The upcoming live-action TV show, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, looks to be a fascinatingly unique Disney+ show. Here’s what’s known about it so far.

We Know Jude Law’s “Jedi” Lives In Wild Space

Among the elements ofSkeleton Crew’sstory that have been revealed,Nawood is confirmed to be living in ‘wild space.‘At present, this is an unexplored area, which means that Nawood could be entirely disconnected from the rest of the galaxy. This would prove particularly interesting in light of the idea that he is a Jedi, though. If Nawood lived in wild space and didn’t have ties to the Core Worlds ofStar Wars, could he truly be a Jedi? This is a particularly thorny question given the timing of the show, as, again, so few Jedi remained.

Jude Law confirmed that Jod Na Nawood is one of many names for the character, making his story even more mysterious.

It’s conceivable, given the details available thus far, that Nawood could be Force-sensitive but have no connection to the Jedi. In fact, with Nawood apparently coming from wild space, he may never have even encountered a Jedi. That doesn’t mean the notion that Nawood is a new kind of Jedi is misleading, however; instead, it could mean thatNawood’s Jedi story might be in front of him rather than behind him inSkeleton Crew.

Jude Law’s Character Could Become Luke Skywalker’s First Apprentice

BecauseSkeleton Crewis so loosely defined but takes place during such a critical point inStar Wars—particularly now, when so many upcoming projects are focused on the Mandalorian era—there has been plenty of speculation regarding how this story could connect toStar Wars’other movies and TV shows. AlthoughStar Warshas recently been emphasizing stories that are separate from the Skywalker Saga, a story about a Force-user set during this era seems as though it must be related in some way. This has led to speculation about Luke Skywalker’s potential connection to the show.

During this period inStar Wars, Luke was either establishing, overseeing, or dealing with the fallout from his Jedi Temple. FollowingReturn of the Jedi, Luke sought to rebuild the Jedi, which is what Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda had intended for him quite literally from the time he was born. Of course,Star Wars: The Force Awakensultimately revealed how seriously those efforts were destroyed, but for a time, Luke was operating a Jedi Temple.

It would make sense forSkeleton Crewto be set further in the future thanThe MandalorianorThe Book of Boba Fettif the show does pertain in some way to Luke’s Temple, as that period has yet to be shown on screen. As mentioned, Grogu briefly attended Luke’s Temple, but he was the only student at the time, and he left. SettingSkeleton Crewa bit further on in this era would allowStar Warsto finally show Luke in his prime, training a Jedi apprentice of his own and fully embracing the role of a Jedi Master.

This could mean that Jod Na Nawood will be Luke Skywalker’s very first Jedi apprentice.

This could mean that Jod Na Nawood will be Luke Skywalker’s very first Jedi apprentice. Luke was no doubt actively searching for Force-sensitives to train at this time, and if Nawood were to come across his path, Luke would very likely want to train him.If Nawood was to be trained as Luke’s first apprentice, this would also certainly explain the description of the character as a new kind of Jedi. Nawood would, in this scenario, be the first of his kind.

ConnectingSkeleton Crewto Luke Skywalker and the largerStar Warsstory in this way would also make sense in terms of the show fitting into the franchise.Skeleton Crewis intended to be a limited series, so offering the show such a pivotal role would give it a lasting legacy inStar Wars, even if it does only run for one season. There are plenty of secrets yet to be revealed inStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, but it would be thrilling if this theory proved true andLuke Skywalker’sfirst Jedi apprentice was finally revealed.
