St. Denis Medicalfeatures a familiar face fromBrooklyn Nine-Nine, but he plays a better version of himself in the new sitcom. The cast ofSt. Denis Medicalhas fronted NBC’s youngest hit, but the most recent installment, season 1, episode 8, “Gimme the Scuttlebutt,” introduces Supervising Nurse Alex’s husband, Tim, played by Kyle Bornheimer—a familiar face for fans ofBrooklyn Nine-Nine. Bornheimer is best known for his recurring role of Teddy Wells, Amy Santiago’s boring then creepy ex-boyfriend in the beloved police comedy.

Teddy’s character was largely defined by his relationship with Amy, which preceded her proper romance with Jake Peralta. WhileSt. Denis Medical’sTim could have easily fallen into a similar archetype, his relationship with Alex is framed entirely differently than Teddy’s with Amy, making Tim’s support endearing instead of off-putting.Tim and Alex’s sweetly relatable marriagewill hopefully get more screen time inSt. Denis Medicalseason 2.

St. Denis Medical’s Tim Channels Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Teddy Wells—But Way Less Creepy

Tim’s Relationship With Alex Is Much Healthier Than Teddy’s Obsession With Amy

Teddy Wells was introduced innocently enough inBrooklyn Nine-Nine, but after Amy breaks up with him for being too boring, he seemed to live his life to impress his ex-girlfriend, including taking a dangerous job with the bomb squad to prove that he has an exciting persona. Teddy became obsessed with Amy, repeatedly proposing to her, including on her wedding day to Jake and even when his own wife was pregnant. While Teddy was undeniably devoted, his obsession crosses the line into unsettling territory.St. Denis Medical’s Tim is the inverse of Teddy— a loving husband but in a sweet, relaxed way.

Tim is set up to be boring with the few details of the relationship Alex shares with her coworkers, but in his first appearance, he appears to be a perfectly nice husband. He is happy just to spend time with her during her lunch break, which leads to a long-awaited tryst in the VIP suite. BothBrooklyn Nine-Nine’s Teddy andSt. Denis Medical’s are men defined by their relationship, butTim is the healthier version of Teddy’s creepy fixation. WhileMatt and Serena areSt. Denis Medical’s will-they-or-won’t-they couple, Alex and Tim’s marriage is quietly wonderful.
