Scream 7’s Latest Casting Update Confirms A Time Jump

Scream 7 Needs A Time Jump To Focus On Sidney’s Family

Scream 7has been surrounded by rumors since Williamson and Campbell’s involvement was confirmed. One of the biggest rumors said that the nextScreammovie will have a time jump so Sidney’s kids can play a role in the story, which further fed rumors about the new Ghostface targeting her family. It was revealed inScream2022 that Sidney had reunited with Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) fromScream 3and married him and had kids. Neve Campbell skippedScream 6due to salary disputes, but Gale (Courteney Cox) mentioned Sidney and her family had gone someplace safe.

So far, the only confirmed cast member ofScream 7is Neve Campbell, but the most recent casting update claimsIsabel May is in talks to play Sidney’s daughter. This confirms thatScream 7will have a time jump, though exactly how many years is still unclear. While this makes sense soScream 7’s story can fit Sidney and Mark’s children without going into dark places with Ghostface wanting to kill children, it also points toScream 7potentially bringing major tragedy to Sidney’s life, as not all her family might make it out alive.

Scream 7 Can No Longer Address The Mystery Of Sam & Tara’s Mother

Sam & Tara’s Mother Is The Reboot Timeline’s Biggest Mystery

In addition to potentially giving Sidney’s story in theScreamfranchise a tragic ending, the time jump inScream 7now leaves no room to addressthe biggest Sam and Tara mystery.Sam and Tara are half-sisters, as Sam is the daughter of Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), a secret her mother kept from her and Tara’s father for years. In two movies, Sam and Tara’s mother never appeared, but she was mentioned a couple of times.

With the time jump, there’s no wayScream 7can explain what happened to Sam and Tara’s mother as a lot of time has passed sinceScream 6.

InScream 6, it was mentioned that, as Sam told Tara the truth about her biological father, their mother cut her off, with Tara cutting her mother off for not talking to Sam. Before the many problemsScream 7went through in pre-production, it was expected to finally introduce Sam and Tara’s mother, but without her daughters in the story, that would have felt off. Now with the time jump, there’s no wayScream 7can explain what happened to Sam and Tara’s mother as a lot of time has passed sinceScream 6, and the focus is now on Sidney, Mark, and their family.

What happened to Sam and Tara’s mother, her relationship with her daughters afterScream 6, and pretty much every other mystery of Sam and Tara’s family will now be left unsolved, as the time jump would also make it very weird and forced if Gale, Sidney, or any other character mentioned the Carpenters and what happened to them.

Scream 7 Will Most Likely Say Goodbye To The Reboot’s Young Cast

In addition to the above-mentioned problems that the time jump brings toScream 7, it also completely leaves out the rest of the reboot movies’ young cast. Accompanying Sam and Tara were the latter’s friends, of which only two survived the murder spree inScream 6: Chad (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), the nephew and niece of Randy Meeks, Sidney’s best friend. Mindy, in particular, took Randy’s place in the reboot movies as the movie expert who delivers the “Rules To Survive A Horror Movie”, while Chad was turned into Tara’s love interest inScream 6.

With the time jump and without Sam and Tara,Scream 7cut any link to the Meeks-Martin twins that was left, and even though Sidney knows who they are, it would be strange to bring them back and make them part of Sidney’s family story. Unfortunately,Scream 7will leave many unanswered questions due to the absence of Sam and Tara, and it’s to be seen if it will try to solve some of these and if it will succeed.
