Peter and Rose’s independent investigation inThe Night Agentseason 1 and what it revealed directly set up season 2, for the path it put Peter on and what it unveiled about those in the upper echelons of government around President Michelle Travers. Updates aboutThe Night Agentseason 2 already showed how most of the characters will be new for the popular Netflix action thriller’s sophomore season, letting only Rose, Peter and President Travers returnin their major roles. Even with that being the case, some key developments ofThe Night Agentseason 1 need to be remembered.

2 Of Netflix’s Best Action Shows Are Returning This Month A Week From Each Other

2 Netflix action TV series returning in January 2025 with 7 days between releases can mean fantastic things for 1 TV show in particular and audiences.

The Night Agentseason 1’s ending brilliantly tied up multiple events that had seemingly no reason to be connected. From the train bombing Peter found himself stopping a year earlier, to Rose’s aunt and uncle being killed, to the Vice President’s daughter being kidnapped,The Night Agentseason 1 explained and connected everything together. BeforeThe Night Agentseason 2’s release, it’s nonetheless worth remembering which characters died in the run-up to the discovery that finally explained who was involved in the conspiracy, in which capacity, why and from when, and how that prompted Peter to become a field agent.

10Peter Becomes A Field Agent For Night Action In The Night Agent Season 1’s Ending

Peter Will Officially Be An Agent In The Night Agent Season 2

Diane Farr eventually revealed inThe Night Agentseason 1 how she had recommended Peter to man the Night Action phone because she wanted to keep an eye on him after he unilaterally stopped the metro bombing.Farr’s interference didn’t let Peter be part of the action, but following his instincts not only kept him and Rose alive, it also led to President Travers being savedand the conspiracy being unveiled.

President Travers would have died without Rose and Peter’s stubbornness to stop those behind the conspiracy, leading her to give him whatPeter wanted: taking over a more active role within the FBI as part of Night Action. Given Peter and Rose’s feat in keeping themselves alive without government resources inThe Night Agentseason 1, Peter effectively proved his worth, making becoming a field agent the next logical step in his career.

9Peter’s Father Was Killed While Working As A Night Agent

He Betrayed The Country But Tried To Remedy His Mistake By Joining Night Action

The supposedly treasonous past of Peter’s father always hung over Peter, as he believed in his father’s innocence and was hounded by the likes of Elliot Rome just as much for his presence at the metro bombing as for his father being branded a traitor. The Night Agentseason 1 eventually revealed Peter’s father was a traitor, proving Jim Wilson’s hunch right even when Peter nor Jim wanted to believe it.

President Travers revealed the truth about Peter’s father as Peter requested that instead of a ceremony celebrating him after he saved her life.Peter’s father indeed committed treason, being responsible for the Pentagon leaks, but he also tried to remedy that by enrolling in Night Action to become a double agent. Peter’s father died at the hands of a foreign assassin before he could start his work as a double agent, but the public could never learn the truth about his death.

8Rose’s Aunt & Uncle Were Killed While Working As Night Agents

Emma & Henry Campbell Were Killed Because They Investigated The Train Bombing

Rose couldn’t understand why someone could target her Aunt Emma and Uncle Henry, nor how they were preparing for the attack the moment they realized what it was.The Night Agentseason 1’s ending finally revealed why Emma and Henry were targetedby Ellen and Dale and which mission caused them to become targets, inevitably connecting them to Peter even before Rose called the Night Action phone.

The Night Agent Season 2 Has The Perfect Opportunity To Redeem The Worst Thing About Netflix’s Action Show

Netflix’s hit show, The Night Agent, is returning for a second season– and it has the perfect chance to fix one of season 1’s worst things.

Indeed, Dale and Ellen killed Emma and Henry because their investigation into the metro train bombing was too close to the truth, andRose’s guardians were about to unveil how Vice President Redfield and his donor Gordon Wick had orchestrated the bombingso that PIF leader Omar Zadar would be killed in the terrorist attack. Redfield opposed President Travers wanting to normalize relationships if Zadar were to win the elections, and Wick did too as that would mean he wouldn’t get money from Zadar’s enemy.

7Peter’s Low Level FBI Job Led To A Conspiracy To Kill Foreign Politicians Via Terrorist Attack

Manning The Night Action Phone Was Never Supposed To Push Peter Closer To The Truth

Peter was never supposed to become the scapegoat for the metro bombing the way the press and Elliot Rome made him out to be. His lucky presence on the train made it possible for the attack not to happen, asPeter evacuated everyone from the train after stopping it, meaning it exploded miles from where it was supposed to, not killing Zadar as Wick and Redfield’s plot had intended.

Diane Farr offered Peter the job on the receiving end of the Night Action emergency line so that she could keep an eye on Peter and learn what he knew,as she wasn’t part of the plot to kill Zadar, but was involved in the cleanup after Redfield looped her in. This meant Farr employed Peter at the White House precisely so that he couldn’t investigate themetro bombing inThe Night Agentseason 1and she could keep an eye on him to see if he was doing so or not.

6Vice President Redfield, Chief Of Staff Farr & Gordon Wick Buried The Truth About The Train Bomb

Redfield Employed Wick To Kill Omar Zadar After Travers Endorsed Him

Gordon Wick and Vice President Redfield had their reasons to want Omar Zadar dead, not making deals with US President Travers. However,Diane Farr only wanted to protect her friend and President Michelle Travers from the truth being revealedas, if it came out that the US Vice President orchestrated a terrorist attack on US soil to kill a foreign politician, it would have destroyed the administration, even if Travers knew nothing about that.

No matter their motives,Wick, Redfield and Farr all cooperated to bury the truth about the metro bombing. All three had blood on their hands, as they had agreed to let Wick’s underlings Ellen and Dale kill Emma and Henry. In addition,Wick, Redfield and Farr’s objective led to the deaths of Lorna, Jamie Hawkins, Cisco, and indirectly even Erik Monks and Ben Almora. With the truth being revealed at last and President Travers remaining in office, all those deaths had effectively been in vain.

5Rose & Peter Killed The Night Agent Season 1 Villains Ellen & Dale To Protect Themselves

Gordon Wick’s Minions Failed Their Mission To Keep The Truth Hidden About The Train Bombing

Ever since Rose saw Dale’s face when hiding in the house of her guardians’ neighbors, she became a target. Peter keeping her safe also made him Ellen and Dale’s target, making things exponentially difficult asPeter and Rose had to defend themselves from and escape the two assassins while also investigating why Emma and Henry were targeted. This led to various close encounters between the two couples, including the one at Emma and Henry’s cabin that revealed Ellen and Dale as pros.

The Night Agent Season 2’s Story Tease Means 1 Important Thing About Peter Sutherland Hasn’t Changed From Season 1

Gabriel Basso reprises his role as Peter Sutherland in The Night Agent season 2, and one of his important traits won’t change in the episodes.

Dale was the first to die at Peter’s hands when following Rose and Cisco almost caused Rose to be killed by him. Peter and Rose’s joint effort made it possible for the two to defend themselves from Dale, whose body was left by the shore.Dale’s death put Ellen on a revenge paththat greatly complicated things and even led to Erik Monks’ death in the shootout after the rescue of Maddie Redfield.Rose neutralized Ellen alone by realizing where she was shooting at Peter, Erik and Chelsea from and pushing her from that vantage point.

4Peter Lost His Best Friend Cisco Due To His & Rose’s Investigation

Protecting Rose Cost Cisco His Life At Ellen’s Hands

Peter’s best friend Cisco wasn’t a main character inThe Night Agentseason 1, but his help was instrumental when Peter had to meet with Diane Farr and wanted to keep Rose safe. Cisco was the first one to run the plates on Ellen and Dale’s vehicle, effectively helping Peter and Rose with their investigation. However,Cisco helped the most when he canceled his date to protect Rose as Peter had to meet with Diane Farr at the White House.

Ellen and Dale eventually found Cisco and Rose’s place as they followed Rose and Peter’s vehicle, prompting a car chase through Washington DC where Cisco and Rose had to envision a plan that could let Rose run on foot while Cisco drove them away. Dale unfortunately understood their plan and followed Rose, which led to his death once Peter found them, butEllen caught up with Cisco, brutally killing him off at the intersection as he was still in his car.

3Secret Services Members Ben Almora & Erik Monks Both Die While On Duty

Almora & Monks Defended Their Targets To The Death

Ben Almora and Erik Monks’ deaths could also be attributed to Wick and Redfield’s plan. While they didn’t know much about Emma and Henry’s investigation, they were involved in the investigation to find Maddie Redfield and bring her home. Looking for Matteo brought Erik and Chelsea to find Rose and Peter and collaborate, andMonks sadly died after being shot at by Ellen, a victim of her revenge-fueled rampage,as they all escaped the hideout where Matteo kept Maddie.

After learning about Wick, Redfield and Farr and convincing Chelsea that he and Rose had finally found the truth, Peter needed a meeting with the highest in grade in the Secret Services, Ben Almora. However,Almora was nowhere to be found, having already been sent with the President to meet Omar Zadar at Camp David. Almora was killed by Wick and Redfield’s mercenaries hiding as Secret Service operatives at Camp David, with Peter getting there just in time to see him die without having the chance to do anything about that inThe Night Agentseason 1’s finale.

2Matteo Kidnapped Maddie To Force Ashley Redfield To Admit Involvement In The Train Bombing

Matteo Wanted To Avenge His Twin Brother’s Death At Wick’s Hands

Matteo Worley was also involved in the metro bombing attack, as he left the bomb in the train carriage before running away and being partially caught by Peter, with whom he fought. While the attack failed, Redfield and Wick wanted their hands to seem clean, thus ordering the hit on Matteo. However,Matteo’s identical twin brother was killed instead, leading him to take his brother’s name and plan his vengeance against those who hired Matteo.

Wanting for Redfield to admit his involvement in the metro bombing and the killing of his brother,Matteo seduced Paulo so that, on the night of Paulo and Maddie’s date,Matteo could kidnap Maddie and threaten Ashley Redfield to hurt his daughter. The threats didn’t really work, as Wick and Farr kept Redfield in check for enough time for Monks and Chelsea to find Maddie together with Rose and Peter, thus making Matteo’s plan for retribution fail.

1Peter & Rose Save Zadar & US President Travers With Diane Farr’s Help

Farr Never Wanted President Travers Hurt, Unlike Redfield

Peter and Rose’s stubbornness paid off in the end, as they managed to reach Camp David byThe Night Agentseason 1’s ending. Their collaboration made it so that Rose could restore communications and Peter could fight his way to the President, having to fight off both the mercenaries dressed as Secret Service and the real Secret Service, who were advised about Peter being armed and dangerous. However, without Diane Farr sneaking them into Camp David to help them save President Travers’ life, Peter and Rose could have never come even close to succeeding.

The Night Agent Season 2’s Story Will Be Different From Season 1 In One Big Way

While not much is known about The Night Agent season 2’s story, Peter Sutherland’s next mission should be very different from season 1 in one big way.

Peter counterintuitively succeeded in saving President Travers’ life by endangering it. While the bomb at the house went off right after Chelsea cleared it, saving both the President and Omar Zadar, the second bomb was still armed.By threatening President Travers with a gun, Peter made sure the Secret Service listened to him and the President wasn’t on the helicopter when it exploded. Peter’s feat was incredible given the few resources available, paving the way for whateverThe Night Agentseason 2 will throw at him when he has to find a way out of tricky situations as an agent.
