The bottom line is I don’t think Joan and Chock are compatible, and I don’t see them lasting. Though I don’t see the relationship working, I’d be thrilled if the couple proved me wrong. I’m a big fan of 61-year-old Joan and was rooting for her to find love, especially considering she’d been through so much. She lost her husband of 32 years in 2021, and with her four children all grown up, she was alone.

As surprised as I was when Joan was cast asThe Golden Bachelorette,I was even more surprised when she accepted Chock’s proposal. After Joan was announced as the lead, she was interviewed byCNN, where she said she wouldn’t be rushing into marriage. She insisted that it wasn’t entirely about Gerry and Theresa’s divorce and she felt people needed more time to get to know each other.
Joan’s comments during her CNN interview convinced me that she wouldn’t be getting engaged either.
When Chock got down on one knee during the finale ofThe Golden Bachelorette, I fully expected Joan to gently turn him down. I was completely mistaken whenJoan enthusiastically accepted Chock’s proposal, letting him slip the ring on her finger. Maybe she changed her mind about getting married after meeting Chock, but I think the excitement is temporary. Once the first flush of new love wears off,I fully expect Joan and Chock will come to their senses before walking down the aisle. They won’t be making the same mistake as Gerry and Theresa.
