After a lengthy wait, season 2 ofCrunchyroll’s hit medical mystery drama,The Apothecary Diaries,is finally just around the corner, with a new trailer teasing a sweet Maomao-Jinshi moment that fans will not want to miss. After a spectacular two-cour run from back in October 2023,Natsu Hyuga’s hit seriesis finally returning this January, and season 2 promises just as much excitement as the first.
Toho Animation recently shared a new full-length trailer forseason 2 ofThe Apothecary Diariesreleasing on August 06, 2025. The new trailer teases the many intriguing plot points that will be explored in season 2, with the main highlight being an adorable interaction between Jinshi and Maomao wherein the latter responds to Jinshi without a hint of her usual exasperation for once. Besides these teasing glimpses, the new trailer also features a snippet of the new opening theme for season two titled “Hyakka Ryoran” performed by Lilas Ikuta, the vocalist of the famed duo, YOASOBI.

Jinshi and Maomao May Finally Be Taking a Step Forward
The new trailer starts off with Jinshi sharing some floor plans with Maomao. Leaving behind her usual snark and sarcasm, Maomao uncharacteristically replies with an earnest smile, supportive of Jinshi’s idea, which is to build an institute to teach the court ladies and their ladies-in-waiting to read and write, which is expected to be one of the many plot points in season 2.
Though small, this wholesome interaction in the latest season 2 trailer showcases just how far Jinshi and Maomao’s relationship has progressed since the beginning of season 1. With romance being a subplot for the most part, the relationship between the two has progressed at a snail’s pace withMaomao’s feelings regarding Jinshi still remaining ambivalent as best.Nonetheless,season 2 ofThe Apothecary Diarieswill likely see Jinshi and Maomao get even closer, especially now that Maomao has discovered at least some things that she likes about Jinshi.
Plenty of New Mysteries Await in Season 2 of The Apothecary Diaries
Besides the surprising interaction between Jinshi and Maomao, the new trailer for season 2 also introduced many exciting new characters, such as Shisui (voiced by Asami Seto), a new servant girl who seems to be just as passionate about bugs and insects as Maomao is about herbs and poisons. The trailer also gives fans a glimpse of"Admonisher of Thieves", an adorable new kittenset to join the inner court and steal viewers' hearts in season 2.
Season 2 ofThe Apothecary Diariesis also expected to bechock-full of intriguing medical mysteries, with the newest trailer teasing many of these intertwining plots. From a curious smell in a certain area of the court to the infiltration of new poisons and a new plot to harm one of the consorts, season 2 is already shaping up to be quite a thrilling adventure.
