However, instead of just being friends with Clark, Jimmy has a conflict with him. Trying to get closer to Clark, Jimmy convinces him to join the Daily Planet’s softball team, which he does. However, after Clark misses a few games to save people as Superman, Jimmy Olsen sees through his excuses. After confronting Clark directly about him being Superman, Hoechlin’s character denies it. Clark then chooses not to go to the Daily Planet team’s championship final while also not going out as Superman, so his secret is safe, andJimmy just assumes Clark does not want to be his friend.

Clark Kent’s Secret Has Been A Main Point Of The DC Series
In most of his appearances in live-action, animation, comics, and more, Jimmy Olsen is shown to be best friends with Superman. That is whySuperman & Lois' change to the character’s dynamic with Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark Kent is so interesting. While not what is usually done with the character, the decision of the DC series is a great one, as itputs a fresh spin on one of Superman’s most important relationships. Jimmy Olsen not being Superman’s friend also fits in withSuperman & Lois' timeline.
Despite leaving the Daily Planet in season 1, it was weird that Clark and Jimmy did not interact untilSuperman & Lois' final season. By introducing a past conflict,the show explains why Jimmy Olsen was missing. The reason for the friends falling out is also good, as it makes sense that Jimmy would grow irritated about Clark’s excuses. While Clark was only trying to protect his secret and Jimmy from being put in harm’s way for being Superman’s friend, it is realistic that Jimmy would realize he is being lied to in some form and be mad about it.

AfterClark Kent decides to reveal that he is Superman to the whole world, he invites Jimmy to come to Smallville so that they can have an honest conversation about Clark’s secret and catch up.
