The Akiva Summit is becoming even more vital toStar Warslore, and every fan should know about it. The Akiva Summit is the central event in Chuck Wendig’s firstAftermathnovel, and functions as animportant part of the Empire’s plans after the death of the Emperor. Now, as Marvel Comics is covering the post-Return of the Jediera of storytelling, Marvel’sThe Battle of Jakkucomic series is overlapping with a lot of post-Return of the Jedimedia, including Wendig’sAftermathseries and, more specifically, the Akiva Summit.
In ‘Consolidation’ - fromStar Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Republic Under Siege (2024) #1by creative team Alex Segura, Stefano Raffaele, Jethro Morales, Alex Sinclair, Jim Campbell, and Joe Caramagna - Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard is invited to the Akiva Summit, but he swiftly refuses, as he believes thefuture of the Empire is in the Anoat sector(Adelhard’s own sector that he had blockaded.) Adelhard believes that his new regime is the only one truly loyal to the Empire and that he must now become a revolutionary against those he once considered allies.

The Akiva summit has long been a pivotal moment inStar Warslore, but as Marvel depicts Adelhard’s rise to power, fans are getting to see how it changed the fate of the galaxy, becoming a crux point in the eventual fate of both the Empire and the New Republic.
The Akiva Summit has been reframed as the moment that swept Adelhard’s Imperial rivals and hurdles out of his way.

Star Wars Tried to Pull Another Death Star Stunt, But Emperor Palpatine’s Plans Didn’t Work Out as Expected
Marvel’s Star Wars comics have arrived at the Battle of Jakku; now, the New Republic faces destruction, as Palpatine strikes from beyond the grave.
The Akiva Summit Was Meant to Decide the Future of the Empire
The Imperial Future Council Assembled… Then Were Ruthlessly Culled
After Emperor Palpatine’s death at the Battle of Endor, an advisor of Palpatine, Gallius Rax, led the Emperor’s contingency plan, which included Operation: Cinder. Cinder punished the Empire for failing to protect their Emperor, destroying the old Empire so Palpatine could start over with only the fiercest leaders. However, one high-ranking Imperial officer, Moff Adelhard, refused to give up the power that came with the Empire, so he blockaded the sector he was in charge of and manipulated its citizens into believing the Emperor was still alive.
The summit didn’t end up being about regrouping, and actually functioned as the death knell for many of the surviving Imperials.

Meanwhile, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane arranged a meeting on the planet Akiva of all the surviving Imperial elite, including herself, Grand Moff Valco Pandion, General Jylia Shale, Arsin Carssus, and Yupe Tashu, the latter of who is featured heavily inThe Battle of Jakkucomic series. This group formed what was temporarily known as the Imperial Future Council, and the purpose of the gathering was to decide the future of the crumbling Empire. The Empire had limited resources, and the summit decided whether to bring all their ships together or spread them out across the galaxy.
Sadly for the remainders of the Empire, the summit didn’t end up being about regrouping, and actually functioned as the death knell for many of the surviving Imperials.Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Republic Under Siegeshows Adelhard’s rise to power, made possible as the Akiva Summit wipes out the former allies who would have hindered him.

Star Wars: Palpatine’s Plan For After His Death Revealed
The Emperor is the greatest villain of the Star Wars Saga - and little by little, Lucasfilm is revealing his plans for after his death.
Admiral Sloane’s Akiva Summit Was a Lethal Blow to the Empire
Admiral Rax’s Trap Unleashed Palpatine’s True Endgame
The Akiva Summit was cut short when the rebel pilot Norra Wexley learned of the meeting and informed the civilians of the city, who carried out an uprising against the Imperial presence. The New Republic also found out about the summit from a mysterious source and sent a small force of their navy to investigate. The New Republic ended up destroying two more of the Empire’s limited star destroyers, and the summit was forced to come to a close.
After Admiral Sloane eventually freed herself from the New Republic, her superior, Admiral Rax, admitted that he was behind the New Republic attack. Rax had encouraged Sloane to arrange the meeting, but revealed that the whole thing was a test to identify the strongest of whoever was left in the Empire, and Sloane passed. Part of Emperor Palpatine’s contingency was for the fiercest Imperial elite to form a new Empire from the ashes of the old. Rax also knew this test would eliminate his rivals in the Empire and assure his succession.

Many of the figures killed or imprisoned in the Akiva Summit would have been key in limitingAdelhard’s rise to power, whether directly or via the alliances he was left free to make. As Marvel sets up the Battle of Jakku, the Akiva Summit has been reframed as the moment that swept Adelhard’s Imperial rivals and hurdles out of his way.
The Akiva Summit Turned Adelhard into a True Threat to the New Republic
Rejecting His Invitation Left Adelhard Free to Act as So Many Others Fell
Escaping the citizens of Akiva’s capital, Myrra, and the forces of the New Republic was not an easy task. The Imperial Future Councilused a civilian shuttle to escape the planet, but it ended up breaking in half. Admiral Sloane eventually escaped, but Pandion and Crassus were killed, and Shale and Tashu were captured by the New Republic in the process all. All in all,the Akiva Summit was a disasterand a major win for the New Republic, even though Gallius Rax counted it as a victory towards Palpatine’s greater plans.
When Moff Adelhard is invited to the Akiva Summit by Admiral Sloane inStar Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Republic Under Siege #1, he rejects the offer. Adelhard then counters by saying that Sloane should be sending him reinforcements instead of wasting resources on her summit. Knowing how the Akiva Summit ends, rejecting that invitation was the best thing Adelhard could have done. Otherwise, he could have ended up a prisoner of the New Republic or among the casualties. Without him, his blockade of the Anoat sector would doubtless have broken.

Rae Sloane’s Failure Only Made Ubrik Adelhard Stronger
Now, He’s Pursuing a Personal Connection to the Dark Side
After the Akiva Summit, other Imperial officers started seeing unity wasn’t working for them anymore, and realized the advantages of Adelhard’s strategy of forcing control. Grand General Kenner Loring, who had his own splinter faction thatwas causing problems for Rax, described Adelhard’s blockade as"the stuff of legend."
Loring’s division is entrenched on Malastare, the same planet on which Marvel’sStar Warscomics now show Adelhard looking for a master to tutor him in the Dark Side of the Force.Sloane’s failure gives Adelhard the perfect opportunity to gain allies and get what he wants.Even Yupe Tashu, who witnessed the failure of the Akiva Summit first hand, is now helping Adelhard to gain power.
