ToDeadline,Squid Gamecreator Hwang Dong-hyuk explained that he wroteSquid Game’s seasons 2 and 3 as one big story.Hwang explained that he penned both seasons at the same time, and that they were in production of seasons 2 and 3 simultaneously as well. Given how successfulSquid Gamewas in 2021, it makes sense that Netflix greenlight two additional seasons once Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed he had another story to tell. However, it has only now been confirmed that seasons 2 and 3 were actually in production at the same time.

This is virtually the same strategy Netflix used forSweet Home, whose first season came out in 2020 and became the first Korean show to chart globally on the streaming platform. Netflix renewedSweet Homefor two seasons, and while season 2 took three years to arrive, the third and final season dropped six months later. UsingSweet Homeas a parameter,it may take less than a year forSquid Gameseason 3 to come out.
