Batmanhas had so many different suits over the years, giving cosplayer ample designs to choose from to craft their own real-world versions. Sometimes Batman just has simple spandex, and sometimes he wears a fully armored mechanized suit. However, as one cosplayer has managed to prove, sometimes simple is best when it comes to the Caped Crusader.

In a post on reddit’s r/cosplay forum, user NYcosplayershowed off a thoroughly awesome Batsuit build, cosplayed by @sincitycosplay, one that eschews complexity in favor of a straightforward, but not less engaging look.

Nycosplayer’s outfit is pretty simple, there’s nothing especially over-the-top about it. It i not an armored look, and it is certainly not comparable to the Arkham Knight suit, but it still works. It’s a fantastic look thatis undeniably Batman, and arguably, it’s how the Dark Knight should look most often.

A lot of comics want to lean more heavily into the gadget aspect of Batman, and there’s no denying that this is a core attribute of the character.Batman has a lot of different gadgets, but he’s not Iron Man. While he has used mecha-suits in the past to battle powerful enemies, like Darkseid and the Justice League, these events are outliers. More often than not,Batman isn’t going around in an armored suitto fight the average criminals, and that’s what this cosplay best captures, that Batman’s outfit can work with a simple design.

What do you think of Dick Grayson’s new Batsuit?

DC Comics' From the DC Vault: Death in the Family - Robin Lives! explores what would have happened if Jason Todd had not been killed by the Joker. In that alternate reality, Batman would end up retiring, with Bruce Wayne making Dick Grayson the next Dark Knight. Dick’s Batsuit has been revealed, and it looks like the perfect mesh between Batman’s iconic costumes and Grayson’s Nightwing suits. I like the use of the Nightwing blue in Dick’s Batsuit, as well as the Bat logo being similar to how it is in the Nightwing suit.

Batman was originally trained as a ninja, it makes sense that he wouldn’t be running around with a ton of heavily armored gear on him. While he definitely needs to avoid being shot by bullets or stabbed, that’s, again, what ninja training is for. Batman sticks to the darkness and takes his enemies out one by one. He shouldn’t attack them head-on unless he’s certain he has the advantage. Batman’s first design was very simple, with it being nothing but spandex and some black bat-shorts. That design has stood the test of time for a reason.

Overly Armored Batsuits Run The Risk Of Looking Ridiculous, Rather Than Badass, Especially In Cosplay Form

Batman Prioritizes Stealth, Not Brute Force

Batman’s armored looks have always been ridiculous, and they’re a lot harder to cosplay. While some talented individuals have done it, it’s not always necessary for an accurate Batman look. The Dark Knight started in just spandex and a lot of his modern-day looks still take design elements from that. That’s why @sincitycosplay’s take on the Batsuit is so perfect;it’s still obviously an armored material, like Kevlar, but it’s not overly bloated with armor plating like the Arkham Knight suit, or some of the more ridiculous comic book suits are.

While Batman’s design will surely continue to evolve over the years, simple is almost always better.

Batman in New Batsuit Surrounded by Wanted Posters DC

That’s the benefit of cosplaying a character who has been in comics for nearly a hundred years. Batman has hadsomany looks over the years. Someone could show up in just cloth and a yellow belt, and it’d be pretty accurate to the 19040s version of Batman. Conversely, someone could show up in a mechanized monstrosity covered in blades, and that’d be a prettyaccurate version of Azrael’s Batman as well.WhileBatman’sdesign will surely continue to evolve over the years, simple is almost always better.
