Kiefer Sutherland returns his action roots in a newSierra Madreimage as hopes remain high he’ll return for a24movie. Directed by Justin Chadwick,Sierra Madrestars Sutherland as Captain Jordan Wright, the leader of an elite squadron who finds himself in a battle with violent cartels after he and his men take leave for a wedding in Mexico. Delbert Hancock and Ian Mackenzie Jeffers penned the script for the film, which also stars Ashton Sanders, Laura Osma, Solly McLeod, and Omar Chaparro, among others.
Screen Dailynow provides a first look at Sutherland inSierra Madre, which they say is currently filming in Colombia.The image features Sutherland, sporting a beard and wearing a black jacket in a jungle-like environment, holding a submachine gunand looking worriedly at something off-screen. No other cast members are present in the image, unfortunately, but the star certainly looks right at home back in the action genre. Check out the new image below:

Jack Bauer Could Still Return
Sierra Madreis still too early into production to predict how it will fare with audiences or critics, butSutherland, at 57, is clearly not shying away from action-oriented roles. The actor’s last real action-adjacent role was inThe Contractor(2022), but that film sees him playing a villain and his action scenes are mostly relegated to the third act. Sutherland remains best known to many for playing CTU agentJack Bauer in24, which ran for eight full seasons from 2000 to 2010 before returning for a miniseries subtitledLive Another Dayin 2014.

It was reported this past summer that a24movie is in early development, though it remains unclear whether Sutherland is being eyed to reprise his role as Bauer. Sutherland, for his part, has expressed on numerous occassions that, should the idea be strong enough, he’s open to reprising his role as Bauer. The image above suggests that, purely from a physicality perspective, Sutherland would have what it takes to become Bauer once more.
Sutherland executive produced24: Legacyin 2017, which starred Corey Hawkins. That show was cancelled after just one season.
