As you finally reach the end ofAvowed’sDawnshore area, as part of the"Untimely End"quest, you’ll finally confront the assassin who shot you with a poisoned arrow in Paradis. There are a few dialogue directions you’re able to take, but you’ll ultimately be faced with the choice to forgive him and let him go, convince him to turn himself in, or fight him. All three options provide distinct rewards and consequences in the comingjourney through the Living Lands, and it’s useful to know what’s going to happen later down the road as a result of your decisions here.

While it might seem obvious that you should kill the assassin who tried to kill you, the situation isn’t exactly cut and dry. Ygwulf’s motivations become clearer after some investigation, and in my experience, he didn’t seem like such a bad guy in the end. Forgiven But Not Forgotten
Assuming you forgave Elowe and heard her out, she’ll explain that the rebels (and Paradisans in general) want to be left to their own devices and don’t appreciate the emperor getting all up in their business. You can choose to forgive her or attack her,but the end result is more or less the same.I’d recommend sparing her if you plan to spare Ygwulf anyway. Either way, once you make your way through the cistern, you’ll eventually find yourself face to face with Ygwulf, who is surprised to see you given your previous state (i.e., dead).

Ygwulf Has Some Pretty Nice Gear
Another option is to convince Ygwulf to turn himself in to the Steel Garrote, which Marius points out will probably result in them torturing him to death. This will let you skip a fight with Ygwulf, but while it’s the better “moral” choice,it’s not really worth it in terms of gameplay. You don’t get any reward, and the rebels will end up attacking you as you try to leave the city anyway. You might be able spare Ygwulf and avoid a fight, you’re getting the worst of both worlds, so you’re better off fighting him or freeing him completely.
Should You Accept Or Reject Sapadal’s Power In Avowed?
You’ll need to make choices that have consequences throughout Avowed, so when you’re asked to accept a piece of Sapadal’s power, should you do it?
Fighting Ygwulf is a perfectly viable option, which will get you theBlackwing Armorpiece, a powerful unique light armor perfect forstealth ranger builds. This armor gives you +30% Stealth Attack Damage and increases your movement speed while crouched. You’ll also receive some Golden Scellings ($$$) and Ygwulf’s Key, andyou can report to the Inquisitor for a cash prize, as she’ll also be somewhat happy with your choice to take down the assassin. In both of these situations, the rebels will be hostile, and you should expect some ambushes in the future.
Why You Should Choose To Spare Ygwulf In Avowed
Ygwulf’s Armor Is Good, But Lying To The Ambassador Is Better
Ultimately, convincing Ygwulf to turn himself in isn’t worthwhile, as you don’t get any of the good rewards and end up getting attacked by rebels anyway. That’s the worst-case scenario, so if you do anything, either fight him or free him. Fighting him is a serviceable option if you particularly want hisBlackwing Armorand if you don’t care about getting attacked by rebels around every turn. It is one of thebest pieces of light armoryou can find this early in the game, and the cash prize isn’t so bad either.
Avowed: What Happens If You Report The Refugees In Dawnshore?
As part of the “Escape Plan” side quest in Avowed, players have the option to help the refugees or report them to Captain Aelfyr for their crimes.
Probably the best option, however, is to free him. Yes, you’ll miss out on his sweet armor, but you receive some excellent rewards, and you can still go back and lie to the ambassador and Inquisitor about what happened. Taking this route also made my life way easier in terms of progressing through the story without being constantly bombarded by rebels. The decision ultimately comes down to how desperately you want Ygwulf’s Blackwing Armor and whether it’s worth having a bad relationship with the Paradisans, but it’s best to spare Ygwulf inAvowed.
