Sakamoto Dayscontinued its great recent run of episodes with episode #8, and it left plenty to be excited about for episode #9 and beyond. Even if the show still suffers visually, the narrative has finally grown strong enough to make up for it, and the show has gotten all the better for it.
Sakamoto Daysepisode #8 picked up where episode #7 left off withTaro Sakamotoand Shin infiltrating the Lab, the laboratory where Shin gained his psychic powers, to rescue Lu after she was accidentally kidnapped. At first, the two of them were having a fairly easy time of things, but things became all the more complicated whenSakamoto was separated from Shin and ended up in a fight with Kashima while Shin had to fight Seba once again. It was an episode filled with incredible highs from start to finish, and whatever follow-up there is will be great to see.

Sakamoto Days Episode 7 Review: A Surprisingly Good Start To A New Arc
Sakamoto Days Episode 7 In Review
Sakamoto Daysepisode #7 was another surprisingly good episode of the anime. From a visual perspective, not only were the action scenes more consistent than normal, butSakamoto Daysepisode #7 had some unexpectedly creative and all-around good animation with how Seba’s invisibility was portrayed and the largely good CGI used for the robot dinosaur. Enough has been said about how inconsistent and largely lacklusterSakamoto Days’ animation is, but episode #7 proves that it can, in fact, look good when enough effort is put into it.
The biggest selling point of episode #7, of course, was its writing. Between the character development afforded to both Shin and Lu, the strong development of the story with Slur, and how great a job it did of setting up the Order getting involved in the plot,Sakamoto Daysepisode #7 had some of the anime’s strongest narrative beats to date and perfectly shows why the writing is so great.Sakamoto Daysepisode #7 has fully brought back the hype fortheSakamoto Daysanime, and fortunately, episode #8 more than succeeded in following up on that.

What Happened In Sakamoto Days Episode 8?
Produced By TMS Entertainment; Directed By Koki Onoue
Sakamoto Daysepisode #8, “Sakamoto’s vs. The Lab”, opened with Lu meeting Asakura, the head of the Lab before Kashima took it over. Asakura explained that he took Shin in when his father abandoned him as a child, and while things started fine, everything changed when Shin drank an experimental formula that gave him his psychic powers. All the scientists aside from Asakura turned on Shin because they couldn’t trust him not to read their minds, leading to Shin running away, and knowing that Shin was back, Asakura helped Lu break out of jail so they could go help Shin.
Back with Sakamoto and Shin, they continued their fight with the mad scientist Horiguchi, but Horiguchi kept tripping them up with a drug that made Sakamoto attack Shin whenever he wanted to attack Horiguchi and vice-versa. It seemed like Horiguchi was going to come out on top, but fortunately,Sakamoto and Shin found a way to use Shin’s telepathy to work around Horiguchi’s drugs, thus allowing Sakamoto to defeat Horiguchi in a massive beatdown. Sakamoto and Shin were now free to continue looking for Lu, but unfortunately, Sakamoto fell through a trap door, leaving Shin all by himself.

Elsewhere, Shishiba and Osaragi of the Order, still looking for Slur, were intercepted by Kashima and some of his henchmen, although the henchmen were easily killed. Kashima, however, was harder to deal with thanks to his cybernetic implants, and it was to the point that Shishiba twisting Kashima’s head around didn’t even faze him. Before Shishiba and Osaragi could try and figure out how to deal with Kashima, though, the trap door Sakamoto fell through brought him directly to where Shishiba and Osaragi were fighting Kashima, and Sakamoto took over the fight while Shishiba and Osaragi continued looking for Slur.
In the final scene of the episode, with Shin separated from Sakamoto, he was once again forced to fight Seba, and once again, Seba’s invisibility made him too challenging an opponent, even with Shin’s telepathy. It seemed like Shin was going to lose after making a desperate attempt to mark Seba with blood, but the blood wasn’t for Shin;Shin’s telepathy told him that Heisuke had arrived looking for everyone at Hana’s behest, so he used the blood to mark Seba for Heisuke, with the episode ending with Heisuke getting a few shots off on Seba.

Sakamoto Days Continues Its Latest Arc With A Surprising Amount Of Style
Sakamoto Days Is On A Definite Upswing
Sakamoto Dayscontinues its latest and biggest arc with episode #8, and it’s holding up surprisingly well. Visually speaking, while the action in episode #8 still wasn’t great all-around, most notably, and unfortunately, in Shishiba and Osaragi’s debut action sequences, there was a surprising amount of consistency in the animation compared to previous episodes, with Sakamoto’s fight with Horiguchi looking surprisingly good by the show’s standards.Sakamoto Days’ productionhas never been as good as it should have been, but overall,Sakamoto Daysepisode #8 is easily one of the anime’s best-looking episodes, to date.
Where episode #8 truly shone, of course, was with its story content. Not only did the arc continue to give Shin a lot of development through Asakura’s flashback, but the characterization of Shishiba, Osaragi, and even Kashima did wonders to quickly make them entertaining characters, and Heisuke’s big hero moment was the perfect way to close the episode out, as well.Sakamoto Dayshas reached the point where the writing can make up for many of its visual shortcomings with episode #8, but hopefully,Sakamoto Daysepisode #9 and beyond will find a way to better balance things.
Be sure to watchSakamoto Daysepisode #9 when it releases on Saturday, March 8.
