Summary
Rotten Tomatoeshas launched a brand new badge that will reflect audience favorites. The review aggregator website was created in 1998 and has since risen to become one of the premiere methods of measuring movie and television reviews. When Tomatometer-approved critics log a review, the amount of positive reviews earn titles a percentage score where anything over 60% is considered Fresh and anything below is considered Rotten. Titles that meet a certain number of criteria, including a minimum score of 75% with at least five reviews from Top Critics, earn a badge that announces them as Certified Fresh.
Now,Rotten Tomatoeshas announced that they are launching a similar program with their audience score system for theatrical movies. The new badge will be called Verified Hot, utilizing the user score, which has now been rebranded the Popcornmeter. In addition to other requirements, the movie will have to earn a Popcornmeter score over 90% to be verified. There are already more than 200 titles that have been officially Verified with the new badge, includingTop Gun: Maverick,Wonka,RRR,GodzillaMinus One,Spider-Man: No Way Home, andDeadpool & Wolverine.Read the full list here.

How Much Overlap Is There Between Verified Hot And Certified Fresh Movies On Rotten Tomatoes?
Critics And Audiences Sometimes Have Very Different Opinions
One major difference between the Verified Hot and Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes scores is the fact thatthe former has a much higher chance of fluctuating, as critics do not tend to write official reviews of non-contemporary titles at the same frequency as Rotten Tomatoes users. This could lead movies to become Verified and un-Verified in unpredictable ways. Another major difference is the fact that critics and audiences frequently disagree on the Rotten Tomatoes platform.
