One lucky player has found a special surprise in theirPokémon Trading Card GamePremium Collection - and no,it’s not a Special Illustration Rare. Released this past October, the Charizard EX Super Premium Collection is a unique gift set forPokémoncollectors. Containing a Charizard EX foil promo card, a Charizard card display figurine, and ten different booster packs fromrecent sets likeStellar Crown, it’s been the source of many a rare find.
One player, ouchthathurtyon Reddit, gota one-of-a-kind pull in their Charizard EX Super Premium Collection: a real-life car key fob. They claim to have found the damaged and time-worn key fob inside the clamshell packaging where the booster packs and promo card are normally contained. Lest it be mistaken for an alternate art Klefki, the key fob’s model number reveals that it was likely originally paired with a NIssan, Infiniti, or Honda, probably an early 2000s model.

Ouchthathurty was obviously amused by the rare find, but the truth is probably a little sadder. The original poster surmised thatan employee of the manufacturer must have dropped their car key unknowingly into the boxwhile packaging the collection up, which probably caused more than a little consternation at quitting time. The broken loop where a keyring would normally go seems to support that theory.
Pokémon Collectors Joke About Their Rare Find
“Send It Out For Grading”
Players across the Pokémon subreddit wasted no time in joking about this unusual occurrence. UserYurJaysuggested putting the fob into a plastic card sleeve andsending it in to be professionally graded, as it might fetch a high price (although some ofthe most valuablePokémoncardswould probably net you enough to buy a few hundred Altimas).
Others, likeBlackGoldShooter, suggestedthis might be a prelude to a bigger find: a brand-new car. Comparing it to a Golden Ticket, this user suggested the original poster attempt to contact The Pokémon Company in order to claim their prize.

But regardless of the cause, fans agreed that this was a bizarrely amusing experience. More importantly, though,it gets at the heart of one of the central aspects of trading card games in general: luck.
Screen Rant’s Take: Pokémon Is All About Luck
Both Good & Bad
No player has ever found a car key inside theirPokémonpacks before (that we know of). This is obviously an incredibly rare occurrence - but then again, so is finding a chase card, or a Special Illustration Rare.Pokémonplayers are effectively playing a game of chanceevery time they rip a pack, and they’ve developed a complicated set of superstitions to go along with that.Upside-down or backwards packs, packs stuck behind shelves are often considered “lucky,” whether or not they actually have a higher pull rate.
All that is to say that, as odd as finding a lost car key inside your Premium Collection is, it’s thematically appropriate. It could even be considered a kind of lucky charm, even if it didn’t have any actual effect on the cards inside the booster packs; ouchthathurty reported otherwise “mediocre” pulls. Here’s hoping the fob’s original owner is soon reunited with the key they lost - even though they’ve probably already resolved the issue without the help of the luckyPokémon Trading Card Gameplayer who found it.
