A newPokémon Trading Card Game Pocketset is out now, but players will be hard-pressed to collect the full set thanks to a nuance in the game’s Wonder Pick rules. Released earlier this week,Shining Revelrycontains 72 new cards plus dozens of Secret Rare cards. One highlight of the set is that the set introducesShiny Pokémon cardsas a new kind of secret rare card. There are 14 different Shiny Pokémon cards to collect, although players will be limited in how they can collect them.
According to multiple reports onReddit, Shiny Pokémon cards do not appear in Wonder Picks due to how their rarities are classified. Because Shiny Pokémon cards have a “higher” rarity than 2-Star,any packs containing a Shiny Pokémon card do not appear in Wonder Pick selections. This means the only way players can collect all the Shiny Pokémon cards inShining Revelryis by opening packs.

Why Shining Revelry Hurts Due To Wonder Pick Rules
A Much Higher Percentage Of Shining Revelry Packs Are Ineligible For Wonder Picks
Previously,Pokémon TCG Pocketfiltered out any pack containing an Immersive Rare or Gold Rare card from being added to the pool of potential packs that appear in Wonder Pick selections. However, because the system filters out any pack with a rarity higher than two stars, all Shiny Pokémon card packs are also excluded from the Wonder Pick system. Because shiny Pokémon cards are slightly more common than other excluded cards, approximately 5% ofShining Revelrypacks are excludedcompared to approximately 1.1% of packs from other sets.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s newest set, Shining Revelry, was just released, bringing with it some powerful new cards that you’ll want for your decks.
Wonder Picks are a critical tool for collecting secret rare cards. While players only have a 20% chance of collecting a specific secret rare card from a Wonder Pick set, those are much higher odds than the approximate 15% of pulling a 1-star or 2-star card via a booster pack opening. While not every card can be collected via Wonder Pick,Shining Revelryhas a much higher number of cards that can’t be pulled from a Wonder Pick selection, which means that collecting the full set will be difficult.

Shiny Pokémon Cards Are Much Harder To Collect
Shiny Pokémon Likely Have Trading Restrictions As Well
If Shiny Pokémon are being restricted from Wonder Picks, it stands to reason that the cards are also being restricted to other features meant to make collecting a full set easier. Trading Shiny Pokémon cards could also be off-limits,as the trading feature is also limited to trades of 2-star rarity cards or less.Pokémon TCG Pockethas not expanded its trading feature since its first came out last year, but the Wonder Pick restrictions lead us to believe that the game will restrict trades of Shiny Pokémon trades as well.
To purchase all Shiny Pokémon cards, players would need to open 308Shining Revelrypacks to earn the necessary Pack Points.

Shiny Pokémon cards are also harder to purchase, except for theShiny Mewtwo card, which costs real money to purchase. “Normal” Shiny Pokémon cards cost 1,000 pack points to purchase, while Shiny Pokémon ex cards cost 1,350 Pack Points to purchase. This makes Shiny Pokémon ex cards harder to collect than 2-star secret rare cards, but slightly more affordable than immersive art cards. To purchase all Shiny Pokémon cards, players would need to open 308Shining Revelrypacks to earn the necessary Pack Points.
Shiny Pokémon Cards Just Put An End To Wonder Picking God Packs
Over 35% Of Shining Revelry God Packs Are Ineligible For Trades
Unfortunately, it will also be very unlikely that players will be able to find a so-called God Pack forShining Revelryin Wonder Picks either. “God Packs” contain only high-rarity cards and can typically be found in Wonder Picks provided they have no gold rare or immersive art rare cards in them.
However, over 35% of “God Packs” will contain at least one Shiny Pokémon card. That means thatover one in every three God Packs will be excluded from the Wonder Pick system. Compare that toTriumphant Light, where the odds of a God Pack having a Wonder Pick ineligible card are only approximately 9%.

The good news is thatPokémon TCG Pocket’s secret missions reflect the increased difficulty of collecting Shiny Pokémon cards.Instead of needing to collect all the Shiny Pokémon cards, the secret missions instead require players to collect any Shiny Pokémon card as requirements. There are a total of six secret rare missions (three for normal Shiny Pokémon cards and three for Shiny Pokémon ex cards) that players will be able to qualify for.
The reality is that, because of howPokémon TCG Pocketimplemented its new Shiny Rarity, it will be nearly impossible to collect the entireShining Revelryset without spending some major money. The same could be said for just about any set inPokémon TCG Pocket, but players could typically collect the bulk of any set without dipping too heavily into their wallet with only a Premium Passand some good luck from things like Wonder Picks. The new limitations make that impossible and that’s a bad thing forPokémon TCG Pocket.
