In the first few months of 2025, fans are expecting some big updates from the gaming industry - and, according to a reliable source, Sony is next in line to announce upcoming plans for thePlayStation 5. Sony’s main competitors in the industry, Nintendo and Microsoft, have already made major announcements in January, with the official reveal of the Switch 2 and an Xbox Developer Direct showing off several highly anticipated games, respectively, so it remains to be seen what Sony has in store for this year.
In response to another user,@NateTheHate2 on Xhas confirmedthe Sony State of Play is still due for February, hinting that it might take placearound the same time as Valentine’s Day on February 14. NateTheHate2 is generally regarded as a reliable source, most notable for recently having leaked the January 16 reveal date for the Switch 2 ahead of time, but at the time of writing, Sony has yet to make any official announcements regarding an upcoming State of Play.

NateTheHate Claims Says A PlayStation Live Stream Is Coming Soon
Sony’s First State of Play For 2025 Could Happen Around Valentine’s Day
Notably,it’s not the first time NateTheHate2 has leaked the possibility of a February State of Play, having predicted iton Xas far back as January 16 - the same day he was proven to be correct about the Switch 2. So far, there’s little information regarding what will be shown in a potential State of Play, but Sony does have several games already announced that could receive updates, likeGhosts of Yotei,Death Stranding 2: On The Beach,Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, orMarvel’s Wolverine.
However, while there are plenty of in-development games for Sony to update PlayStation fans on, the potential for entirely new announcements may suffer fromSony’s cancelation of several live-service titles. It’s relatively likely that an upcoming State of Play will include at least some new announcements, but fans shouldn’t expect anything from the studios that had their games canceled, which include Bluepoint Games (responsible for the remakes ofShadow of the ColossusandDemon’s Souls) and Bend Studio (Days Gone).

Sony Has Been On A Roll With Reveals & Sales As Of Late
The PlayStation 5 Has Several Highly Anticipated Upcoming Games
Outside the cancelation of some live-service titles,Sony’s various sales and reveals have gone over well, withGhosts of YoteiandIntergalacticbeing two especially highly anticipated titles from Sucker Punch and Naughty Dog, respectively. While the PlayStation 5 library of exclusive titles is still thinner than some fans would like it to be, the console has still put up a strong performance over the course of its lifetime.
Of course, even when they come from reliable sources, leaks should be taken with a grain of salt before they’ve been confirmed by official announcements, so while the February State of Play is looking likely, fans may want to temper their expectations. With Nintendo and Microsoft already having made some major announcements for 2025, Sony is sure to follow suit, and thePlayStation 5is due to receive some new games.
