The following contains spoilers for Paradise episode 6, “You Asked For Miracles,” now streaming on HuluParadise’smain mystery may have just eliminated a lead suspect in the case. WhileParadisehas steadily revealed itself to be many things (including a stealthy sci-fi show, a political thriller, and a character-driven drama), at the heart of the show is a murder mystery. Cal Bradford’s death off-screen shortly before the events of the first episode shook the survivors of the end of the world, and has in turn revealed several secrets that could upend the lives ofParadise’s remaining characters. Since the murder was revealed, almost everyone has remained a suspect or revealed some connection to Cal’s death.

As the show has progressed, however, one character has increasingly established themselves as the true antagonist of the show. Despite their understandable reasoning behind making some ruthless decisions, it’s set them up as the most obvious suspect for Cal’s murder. However, as in most mystery fiction, the most obvious suspect doesn’t actually appear to be the culprit. Alongside some other characters who have quietly explained themselves or proven their actual intentions, this revelation thatthe main villain ofParadiseisn’t actually Cal’s killer raises more questions about who is the show’s secret killer — and who is actually pulling their strings.

Samantha Redmond Didn’t Kill Cal In Paradise

Samantha Redmond Has Nothing Left To Hide In Paradise

Thesixth episode ofParadise, “You Asked for Miracles,“seemingly reveals thatSamantha Redmond wasn’t the murderer of Cal Bradford, which eliminates one of the most obvious suspects for the President’s death. For the entire run of the show, Redmond has been established as a serious danger and the overarching villain of Paradise. Despite having some tragic motivations and a sympathetic backstory, Redmond’s desire to control the city underneath the dome has led her to carry out some ruthless decisions. This includes having the scientists who ventured into “You Asked For Miracles” assassinated before they could bring other survivors home.

However, even when cornered by Xavier Collins and open about her other crimes, Redmond reveals she didn’t have Cal killed.

Xavier (Sterling K. Brown) and Robinson (Krys Marshall) decide to unite to unmask Samantha/Sinatra in Paradise (2025) Season 1 Ep 5

All this made it entirely plausible that Redmond would have Bradford killed to further her ambitions. However, even when cornered by Xavier Collins and open about her other crimes, Redmond reveals she didn’t have Cal killed. There’s a chance she’s lying about this to cover up the truth of her involvement, but it does carry more honesty than most of her manipulations. Although it isn’t exactly a ringing endorsement of her morality (as she admits she was considering it after Cal discovered the truth about the scientists),it does mean the central mystery ofParadisestill needs to be solved.

Many Other Suspects For Cal’s Murder Have Been Eliminated

Some OfParadise’s Most Obvious Suspects Are Either Working With Xavier Or Have Been Killed

The mystery surrounding Cal’s death is still being unraveled but has taken a slight backseat inParadiseas the several other mysteries and conspiracies at the heart of the show have been steadily uncovered. However, this has also resulted in some suspects being eliminated from suspicion. The most obvious suspect in Cal’s death initially appeared to be Billy Pace, especially after Cal revealed to Gabriela that he feared her. However, despite the secret service agent being revealed to have worked for Redmond, his growing conscience got him killed after he told Xavier that he wasn’t the one to kill Cal.

Paradise Episode 5’s Xavier & Robinson Twist Raises The Stakes Against The Show’s Big Villain

The allegiances of Paradise shift drastically in episode 5, which sets the stage for Xavier Collins to turn the tables against the show’s big bad.

Among the rest of the cast,Xavier and Robinson have steadily been shown to be heroic characters with genuine reasons to solve Cal’s death. This makes those two less likely to be the culprit without any wild and unforeseen plot twist. Xavier’s daughter Presley may have seen something without realizing it given her proximity to the event, but her scenes in “You Asked For Miracles” indicate that she and Cal’s son Jeremy aren’t responsible for his death. Meanwhile, relatively small characters like Cal’s wife or other agents haven’t been given the focus to be a rewarding choice for the killer.

The Most Obvious Suspect In Cal’s Death Is Agent Jane

Jane Was In The Building And Has Experience Killing People In Secret

The most obvious suspect in Cal’s murder remains Agent Jane Driscoll, who was present at Bradford’s residence when he died. Initially introduced as a nice enough young woman, Jane has been revealed to be Redmond’s secret weapon hiding in plain sight, capable of manipulating others with ease and killing them. After all, she was in the building when Cal was killed, with her public explanation being that she, Billy, and Presley were distracted playing a video game when Cal died. However, this could easily be another bald-faced lie from the young woman, who could have snuck away and killed him.

Jane confessed that she and Billy were playing Nintendo Wii the night of Cal’s murder, and Presley’s presence was also confirmed in “You Asked For Miracles.”

Paradise Episode 6 Hulu 6

Jane has notably not received anywhere near the character focus or attention that the rest of the cast has gotten over the course ofParadise. She remains something of a cipher, hiding her ruthless aptitude for murder under a veneer of sweet naivety. This means that she doesn’t have any clear motive to kill Cal, unless she was under the orders of someone else. Redmond admits she had Billy killed, and it’s unclear if anyone else has died at Jane’s hands. However, if she didn’t have Cal killed but it turns out Jane did do it, it raises more questions.

Cal’s Killer May Not Be The Real Mystery In Paradise

Who Killed Cal Might Not Matter As Much As Why He Was Killed

While Redmond might not have had Cal killed, it’s possible that someone else rich and powerful also has some degree of control over Jane. If that’s the case, then the true mystery isn’t who killed Cal, but why they decided to order the President be killed. The reveal that Presley found Cal’s tablet outside the window suggests the murder wasn’t to get access to Cal’s secrets, as the tablet would have been recovered. The nature of the attack suggests it was a more personaland brutal killing than the subtle way Jane has proven capable of, making it more impulsive.

One other possible suspect is Dr. Gabriela Torabi, whose whereabouts on the night of the murder have not yet been confirmed.

It’s possible that Jane went in and carried out the actual deed, but at the behest of someone powerful — like Kane Bradford, Cal’s father.Kane could have grown angry with Cal and ordered his death, or lashed out at his son himself. His dementia might cloud his memories of the act, although he seems to be wracked with guilt over his relationship with Cal. Kane may have been the one who gave the order in an attempt to silence Cal and preserve the power their family currently holds.Paradise’s biggest mystery is only more confounding now that Redmond appears innocent.
