Summary

New evidence fromAhsokasupports the most exciting theory for the show’s upcoming second season. As seen in the recentStar Warsshow, the titular Ahsoka Tano and her apprentice Sabine Wren journeyed to another galaxy to save the long-exiled Jedi Ezra Bridger while also keeping Grand Admiral Thrawn from returning. However, the final season ended on a major cliffhanger, and a new tease may be pointing at what lies ahead forAhsokaseason 2.

Various runes can be seen and translated throughoutAhsokaand its eight episodes. A new runic alphabet seemingly meant to be what the canonical Sith Tongue (ur-Kittât) was derived from, fans have been able to translate and discover hidden messages and Easters. This includesthe list of planets on the Pathway to Peridea seen inAhsoka’send-credits sequence, as well as on the Nightsisters' temple on Peridea with references to Kujet, the Zeffo sage who had a temple on Dathomir. However,a newly deciphered translation fromAhsoka’spremiere seemingly supports one of the biggest theories aboutAhsokaseason 2.

Runes From Ahsoka Episode 1 Have Been Translated A Year Later

A Cryptic Rhyme Pointing Toward Peridea (And More)

Just in time for the show’s recent one-year anniversary, runes fromAhsoka’spremiere have been translatedthat were found inside the Nightsisters' stronghold on Arcana (where Tano recovered the star map to Peridea). The translation reveals a cryptic message, one that may have some fascinating ramifications for the future with the upcomingAhsokaseason 2:

THREE THERE WERE WHO MADE THE JOURNEY, WITHOUT WHOSE KNOWLEDGE THERE IS NO RETURNING. A PATHWAY CONNECTING NEAR AND FAR, ACROSS THE HEAVENS STAR TO STAR.

Arcana Map Room In Ahsoka

DESPITE GREAT POWERS WHICH DO OBJECT, THIS SECRET WAY THE THREE PROTECT. SO HEED THE PATH WITH A WATCHFUL EYE, FOR IF YOU WANDER YOU WILL DIE.

On the surface, it could be assumed that this riddle is simply about the Pathway to Peridea. However, references to “The Three” make this translated message far more compellingconsidering howAhsoka’sfinale ended with Baylan Skoll.

Abeloth in Star Wars Legends showing her disturbing smile with teeth

Having left his apprentice Shin Hati, Baylan also abandoned his service to Morgan Elsbeth and Thrawn shortly after setting foot on Peridea. Having felt a presence calling out to him, Baylan was seeking a greater power he believed the Great Mothers were attempting to flee from. This led Skoll to the three large statues at the end ofAhsoka, the very “Three” this new rhyme is likely referencing.

The “Three” Are Most Likely The Mortis Gods

The Father, Son, and Daughter

The three statues seen inAhsoka’sfinale are none other than the Mortis gods, celestial anchorites who represent and directly affect the Force itself.First seen inThe Clone Warsseason 3, the Father represents the Force in balance, tasked with keeping his children in check with the Son representing the dark side and the Daughter, the light. While the Father had wanted Anakin Skywalker to take his place as the Chosen One, events transpired where the Daughter was inadvertently killed by the Son, likely explaining why her Peridea statue inAhsokawas damaged while the other two remain intact.

Ahsoka herself also has key connections to her Daughter, having been resurrected via her celestial power after the Son poisoned and corrupted Tano, the most likely reason why theDaughter’s convoy owl Moraican always be seen watching over Tano.Based on this new runic translation, the Mortis gods do seem like the most likely candidates as “The Three"who possess great knowledge and serve as protectors of a secret way (perhaps the World Between Worlds). However, the rhyme also points to a new danger, supporting the biggest theory about the dark presence that’s seemingly been calling out to Baylan: Abeloth.

There’s Only One Power That Could Threaten Them - Abeloth

The Secret Mother From Star Wars Legends

While the three Mortis gods are part of the officialStar Warscanon, there are parts of their history that were only told in novels that have since become part of the non-canon Legends. This includes the human woman who joined their family and became The Mother. Fearing her own death and increasing age amidst her family of immortals, The Mother drank from the forbidden Font of Power and bathed in the Pool of Knowledge. This corrupted The Mother into the immortal being of chaos and entropy known as Abeloth, forcing the Son and Daughter to come together and lock her away.

However, Abeloth would be freed every time the flow of the Force was altered, restarting the process over millennia where the Son and Daughter would work together to contain her once more. That said, Anakin’s refusal to replace the Father and the Daughter’s death saw Abeloth eventually breaking out during the New Republic Era in Legends, becoming a threat that was faced by Luke Skywalker, his Jedi students, and a lost tribe of Sith who all came together to defeat Abeloth and save the universe from complete annihilation. To that end, perhapsAhsokais setting up a canonical adaptation of this original Legends story with Abeloth also breaking out during theNew Republic Era.

Abeloth certainly fits the bill as the true danger referenced in this new rhyme, assuming it is indeed about the three Mortis gods. She is the biggest and only true threat to the Force in its entirety, seeing as how she’s capable of ending the entire universe. While still largely conjecture for now, the setup inAhsoka’sfinale with the Mortis gods combined with this new translation certainly does support all the Abeloth theories forAhsokaseason 2.

Ahsokaseason 2 is currently in development. A release date has not yet been announced.
