Although the developers are adding new content via DLCs and enhancements made to the base game, thisone persistent issue has been plaguingSims 4builders since its releaseand doesn’t show any signs of actually going away. Sims 4 Needs To Extend Lots To The Sidewalk

The Gap Between The Sidewalk & Your Lot Is So Annoying

In theSims 4,housing lots do not typically extend all the way to the sidewalk. For builders who enjoy having a walkway to their front door, this leaves a gap of grass between the sidewalk and the player’s home. Additionally, it also makes it so any fencing that one wants to build won’t go up right at the perimeter of the property, instead leaving an undesired gap between the housing lot and the sidewalk. Although it may seem like a tiny detail that’s not that big of a deal, the consistency in which Maxis makes lots just slightly undersized is pretty infuriating.

This gap also encourages Sims to walk on the lawn or grass rather than follow a paved path.

This annoying feature was extended in the latestLovestruckDLC lots, signaling that it’s not a point of priority for Maxis to fix. After all, with the complexities required to build new relationship mechanics and turn-ons and turn-offs, it’s understandable this “small” QoL feature is being ignored or overlooked. Using aSims 4building trickto construct a retaining wall to help remedy this works to some degree, but it means completely changing the build to compensate for this issue.

Unlike open-world games likeValheim, where it’s possible to set down the foundation for a building virtually anywhere,inSims 4, the gameplay restricts players to lots. Outside of lots, some of the static hand-crafted environments are impossible to edit, and that extends things like sidewalks. Userannyonghelloannyongon Reddit voiced their opinion on the matter, complaining that sidewalk tiles don’t match the hue of tiles on their lot, creating a clear delineation between the two for a visual eyesore.

Another user responded to the post, explaining that theSims 4T.O.O.L. mod onCurseforgecould help them. The acronym stands for “Takes Objects Off Lot” and lets players adjust things outside of the rectangular confines that the developers have given players. While this is a good solution, it seems like a lot to have to do in theSims 4for such a simple request.
