WithScrubsseason 10 now officially happening, speculation can begin in earnest about what the sitcom’s revival will look like, and showrunner Bill Lawrence has already provided a huge clue in that respect. All nine seasons ofScrubsaired between 2001 and 2010, with the final season drawing much criticism and ultimately leading to the show’s cancelation. Part of the reason behind this was that notevery doctor inScrubsreturned for the show’s last run of episodes, but there were other factors.
TheoriginalScrubshospital was only torn down in 2011, butScrubsseason 9 still shifted location to a traditional sound stagerather than using the immersive building where the previous eight seasons had been shot. This contributed massively to the show’s new feel, causing ratings and audience reception to plummet dramatically. There are many who believe it would be best to wipe theMed Schoolera from existence when the sitcom is revived, and Lawrence has now addressed that particular point of view.

Scrubs Is Right Not To Ignore Season 9, Even If It Was Disappointing
Scrubs: Med School crashed & burned but made important contributions to canon
Bill Lawrence has made it clear thatScrubsseason 9 won’t be retconnedas part of the sitcom’s comeback, and everything that happened in the episodes will remain part of the show’s main canon. Although this is a divisive decision, it’s the right one to make overall.AScrubscomeback was never going to be able to recapture the exact magicas the first eight seasons, so putting all the pressure on returning to the same format as seasons 1-8 is unrealistic.
Scrubs' Worst Episode Isn’t From Season 9 (But It Still Shows How Bad Med School Was)
Scrubs: Med School is largely accepted as the sitcom’s worst era, but the show’s lowest-rated episode surprisingly doesn’t come in season 9.
Scrubsseason 9 fell way below the standard those fans had come to expect, but the episodes still came with some big revelations that will impactScrubsseason 10 and possibly beyond. For instance, JD (Zach Braff) and Elliot (Sarah Chalke) are married inMed School, as well as expecting a child. While this could technically remain intact while getting rid of the rest ofScrubsseason 9 lore, that seems more than a little messy for a sitcom. Nothing went particularly wrong with any of the established characters, it’s just that they weren’t inMed Schoolenough.

How Scrubs Can Incorporate Season 9 Characters Into The Revival
The Med School interns will have graduated by now
Speaking withTV LineaboutScrubsseason 9’s newcomers, Lawrence stated he’s “not against seeing those people” inScrubsseason 10. He praisesMed Schoolstars like Kerry Bishé and Dave Franco but also admits that perhaps cameo appearances for them would be best overall.Lawrence makes a great point about the fact thatScrubsseason 9 was set at a Med School, and so those interns will have graduated and moved on in the fifteen years since the show ended. However, there’s no reason they can’t swing by for a visit inScrubsseason 10.
