Boruto: Two Blue Vortexhas made it clear that tension among the leaders of the Hidden Leaf Village is greater than ever. With Naruto missing and new enemies appearing out of nowhere, Shikamaru has been left in a precarious position, with few allies to help him navigate these issues. Worse, the Elders, who were supposed to support him through these tough times, see him as an obstacle to their plans.

Chapter #16 of the manga series hinted atHomura and Koharu plotting to remove the Eight Hokagefrom office by placing the blame for Boruto’s escape on his shoulders. Their short but telling conversation with the Daimyo of the Land of Fire makes it clear that they are displeased with the current ruler. The series could imply the Elders will lead a coup against Shikamaru as they previously did during Tsunade’s rule.

Konoha’s Elders Seem To Be Plotting Against The Hokage

Homura and Koharu Want Shikamaru Gone

Koharu and Homura, former teammates of the Third Hokage and advisors to the leader of the village are undoubtedlysome of the franchise’s most dislikeable characters. Since their introduction during the originalNarutoseries, they have caused nothing but problems for the heroes, acting as manipulative antagonists who oppose progress. In previous chapters of theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga, they have been shown to still hold the same belief, proving that the Seventh Hokage made a mistake in not taking power away from them. This decision could soon again hurt the village, as proven by chapter #16.

During this entry, the Elders were seen speaking with the Daimyo of the Land of Fire, the country in which Konoha is located. The ruler of the nation let them know that Boruto’s escape was a significant overlook and not correcting it soon could cause problems for the responsible parties. When the protagonist escaped from custody during chapter #14, Homura and Koharu threatened Shikamaru, blaming him for the event. Together, these two moments paint a grim picture of the Eight Hokage’s future, as the Elders could be planning to remove him from the position.

Naruto’s Most Evil Characters Return In Boruto, And They’re Still The Worst

Despite being close to Danzo, one of Naruto’s worst villains, two Konoha ninjas who’ve contributed to countless deaths have returned in Boruto.

Homura and Koharu have already announced their displeasure with Shikamaru as the village’s leader. Blaming the Nara Clan head for allowing Boruto to escape could bethe perfect opportunity for them to get rid of him. Doing so would not only allow them to expand their power, but it would also gain them the favor of the Daimyo, a figure that could help them retain the position. Since the possibilities of Boruto being captured permanently are slim to none, Shikamaru should soon prepare for the Elders' upcoming coup.

Eida will help Shikamaru retain his position.

The Elders Have Already Tried Something Similar In The Past

Danzo Becoming A Temporary Hokage Was Due to The Elders

Homura and Kohaku betraying Shikamaru would not be the first time these conniving individuals have conspired against their allies. In the originalNarutoanime, during Tsunade’s time as the fifth Hokage, the Elders made it clear that Hashirama’s granddaughter was not the right person to lead in their eyes. They saw her as someone without the will to carry out the atrocities needed to maintain Konoha’s reputation as a fearsome and powerful village. As such, they began plotting with Danzo, one of the most hated characters ever, to give him the title of Hokage instead.

Although they did not get the chance to act against Tsunade, as Pain’s attack on Konoha left her in a coma, they immediately named Danzo as the temporary leader. Their new plan involved allowing Tsunade to remain comatose while Danzo led the village and told the citizens that they were just waiting for the Fifth to wake up. Offering Shikamaru as a sacrifice to appease the Daimyo would not be out of character for the manipulative Konoha Elders. They could then blame the previous Hokage’s incompetence for the recent attacks on the village while clearing their name.

Eida Will Be Vital For Shikamaru’s Survival

The Cyborg Has Already Hinted At An Alliance

Eida’s Senrigan, one of the most versatile and powerful Eye Techniques in the series, gives her the ability to know about any past or current event. Thanks to this ability, she is one of few people who know about Shikamaru aiding Boruto on his escape, as proven by their conversation in chapter #16. Joining forces with her might be the only way for Shikamaru to prevent his title from being stripped away. Her insight could become the only tool in avoiding the traps that Koharu and Homura will set in his way.

Homura and Koharu’s discussion with the Daimyo will no doubt become relevant at some point during future chapters of theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga. Their actions might cause even more issues for the citizens of Konoha, who are already struggling against the Divine Trees. It will be up to Shikamaru and his allies to find a way to foil their plans and maybe even remove them from their position once and for all.
