This is one of five Secret Lair drops that will bepart ofD&D’s 50th anniversary, which also features a similar set of cards for Astarion.

It was previously revealed thatKarlach’s Ragewould include a reprint of Karlach herself with new art that is closer in line with her appearance fromBaldur’s Gate 3. Each of the other cards in the Secret Lair is either red or colorless, meaning they can all be includedin a Commander deckhelmed by Karlach. The cards chosen also do a good job of capturing Karlach’s strengths and personality.

An artificer in Magic: The Gathering - Duskmourn

Magic: The Gathering Fans Will Want To Keep An Eye On August 31

Magic: The Gathering fans eager to learn more about Duskmourn, the game’s first modern horror set, should mark their calendars for the end of August.

Karlach’s Rage Includes Five Reprints With Exclusive Art

The five cards included inKarlach’s Rageare as follows:

Karlach herself is depicted in gorgeous new art and remains a potent choice of Commander, with the ability to extend combat into another round during the same turn. That can result in quite a few exciting combos with a card pool as deep as EDH, and she’s been popular ever since her release since she synergizes so well with so many red cards - some of which have been reprinted alongside her!

Two of the cards fromKarlach’s Rage, Stranglehold and Dolmen Gate, do a good jobrepresenting Karlach’s role as a tank for the party. Stranglehold says that “your opponents can’t search libraries and if an opponent would begin an extra turn, that player skips that turn instead.” The art appropriately shows Karlach grappling some goblins, a good parallel for how this card shuts down opponents’ options. Dolmen Gate says “prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to attacking creatures you control.” This is a good representation of Karlach’s ability to take reduced damage while raging.

Fallout cards with Fallout environment

The other newly revealed cards, City on Fire and Thrill of Possibility, arered staples that will slot nicely into a Karlach-led deck. City on Fire has convoke and says “if a source you control would deal damage to a permanent or player, it deals triple that damage instead.” This pairs very well with Karlach’s abilities as first strike with triple damage will likely clear most blockers. Thrill of Possibility says “as an additional cost to cast this spell, discard a card” and “draw two cards.” Rummaging cards like this are a common source of card draw in red decks.

Ultimately,Karlach’s Rageis exactly the sort of product that Secret Lair seems tailor-made for.

Ultimately,Karlach’s Rageis exactly the sort of product that Secret Lair seems tailor-made for. It’s a desirable expansion of an already existing card inMagic: The Gathering, and takes playable EDH options and reprints them with more Karlach-infused lore and art. For players who already use the popularBaldur’s Gate 3heroine as their Commander, this is an obvious pickup, but it also might sway more than a few players to try out a mono-red Commander in the near future, too.

Karlach’s Rage releases on August 27 on the official MTG Secret Lair site for $29.99 in nonfoil and $39.99 in foil. Four other Dungeons & Dragons-themed drops will release at the same time.
