Every season ofLove Is Blindhas a villain, and David “Dave” Bettenburg might be it,ashis remarks alone suggest he probably shouldn’t have joined the cast.Love Is Blindseason 8 dropped its firstepisodes on February 14. Thirty-two singles entered the pods, hoping to find their soulmates. As expected, a newLove Is Blindseason means new drama and some villains—with Dave currently leading the pack. He follows in the footsteps ofLove Is Blindseason 6 contestants Clay Gravesande and Matthew Duliba.

InLove Is Blindseason 8,Dave is quickly becoming the contestant everyone loves to hate. The Minneapolis native has been stirring drama among otherLove Is Blindseason 8 cast membersand playing with the hearts as his potential partner. His approach to conversations in the pods hasn’t been ideal for forming meaningful connections, which raises the question of whether he was the right choice for the unscripted series.

Dave Made Rude Remarks To The Women In The Pods

Dave Called One Of His Pods Dates “Old”

Dave, a 33-year-old medical sales representative, has a horrible approach towards dating. While it might be his sense of humor, it didn’tresonate with everyone and sometimes came off as rude and condescending. TheLove Is Blindstar asked one of his co-stars, Monica Danús:

“Why are you here? What’s wrong with you?”

While she laughed it off and responded with, “probably a lot, honestly,” other contestants didn’t take it as lightly. During his interactions with Lauren O’Brien, Dave asked how old she was. She proudly said she was 30 years old, to which Dave responded, “Okay. So, you’re no longer attractive.” Although he claimed he was joking, his comment came across as misogynistic. In his introduction toLove Is Blindseason 8, Dave admitted to being shallow regarding his choice of women.

He acknowledged his work in the cosmetic industry—“surrounded by botox, fillers, facelifts, tummy tucks, and butt lifts”—had shaped his perception of women and his expectations for a partner’s appearance. He joinedLove Is Blind, hoping to change this mindset. However, based on his remarks, especially towards Lauren (whom he later got engaged to), it’s clear Dave hasn’t reflected on his behavior and remains unwilling to break away from his rigid beauty standards.

He Said He Treated Previous Partners Badly

Dave Hasn’t Been A Great Partner

While he seemed self-aware and ready to confront his past mistakes, Dave’s actions told a different story. The way he talked to women in the pods madeit clear the man who once treated women badly was still lurking beneath the surface. Dave came across as the kind of guy who would tear women down so he could build them again—which is a massive red flag.

David Bettenburg Should Never Have Been Part Of The Cast Of Love Is Blind Season 8

He’s The Worst Participant

Dave should have never joined theLove Is Blindcast—he’s not in it for the right reasons. His dating tactics in the pods made it obvious he wasn’t looking for a serious connection. Throughout the first six episodes, he comes off as self-absorbed and insincere, and if the trailer is any indication, he might have a few controversial moments that only add to the speculation about his true intentions (viaNetflix).

Although Dave claimed he was looking for a soul connection, it appears like he joined theLove Is Blindexperiment as a personal challenge to prove he’s not shallow rather than find a partner. Surprisingly, he left the pods engaged. Move over, Leo Braudy, as there’s a newwalking red flag in theLove Is Blindseason 8 pods.

Love Is Blindseason 8 is streaming on Netflix. New episodes drop every Friday.
