While the general audience and long-time comic book fans know Norman as the villainous Green Goblin,Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manis taking a new approach with the character. In this reality, Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man, was not the one to serve as Peter’s mentor (and eventual father figure), despite the iconic hero still existing in this timeline. Instead, Norman will be filling that role in Peter’s life, while also being his man in the chair for Spider-Man, a popular reference to Tom Holland’sSpider-Man movies.
According toYour Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Manshowrunner Jeff Trammell, the significant differences between Tony and Norman are how"Norman has good intentions, but Norman has never embodied the hero role in the way that Tony [Stark] has.“Trammell also added,“The methods he’s sharing with Peter may not turn out in everyone’s best interest,“suggesting that perhaps their collaboration will not go as well as Norman had initially hoped.
Whether this means that Norman could still become the Green Goblin in this reality remains to be seen.
