Jujutsu Kaisenis packed with heart-racing battles involving sorcery, Cursed Techniques, Domain Expansion, and other effective battle tactics. Of these fights, it can be difficult to determine which is the best, but even after the manga’s conclusion, one particular arc remains more unforgettable than any that follow it: the Shibuya Incident arc.

The Shibuya Incident arc was a key point inJujutsu Kaisen, when the fight between jujutsu sorcerers and Cursed Spirits reached a peak, as the Cursed Spirits, led by Kenjaku, carried out a plan to trap the strongest sorcerer, Gojo Satoru, in the Prison Realm and kill as many non-sorcerers as possible in Japan. Apart from this devastating attack, the series' most petrifying villain, Ryomen Sukuna, awoke again in Yuji Itadori’s body and launched a horrific massacre of his own, definitively proving his power beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Sukuna’s Shibuya Incident Fights With Jogo and Mahoraga Finally Placed the Villain in the Spotlight

After Yuji consumed Sukuna’s finger and became the evildoer’s host body, Sukuna laid dormant for a while, but finally made his presence known againin the Shibuya Incident arc. Gojo Satoru was targeted first by the group of Cursed Spirits and subsequently sealed in the Prison Realm, making the fate of Japan seem pretty hopeless without him as a protector. When Yuji Itadori fell unconscious, Nanako and Mimiko, the two twin girls Geto Suguru adopted, fed Yuji some of Sukuna’s fingers, and this led the villainous spirit to take control of Itadori’s body once more, finally properly joining the Shibuya battlefield.

Sukuna made his evil nature crystal clear, murdering Jogo quickly when the pair got into a fight. Jogo was desperate to recruit Sukuna and gain his power, which would be instrumental in the Cursed Spirits' goal of eradicating non-sorcerers, so he agreed to a fight. Although he is technically a fellow Cursed Spirit, Sukuna prefers to act on his own, following his own whims, and showing respect to no one.The following battle between Jogo and Sukuna was fiery, intense, and utterly hopeless for Jogo,as he was murdered rather quickly and never stood a chance against Sukuna.

The Mahoraga and Sukuna Clash Was a Defining Jujutsu Kaisen Moment

This Battle Is Considered One of the Series’ Best and Most Cinematic, Showing Off Sukuna’s Domain

Next came Sukuna’s cinematic clash with Mahoraga, a shikigami called onto the battlefield by Megumi.Sukuna’s fight with Mahoragais largely considered one of the greatest, most visually stunning, and most shocking battlesin the entirety ofJujutsu Kaisen.Although he technically first showed his Domain Expansion, Malevolent Shrine, in the Fearsome Womb arc, Sukuna’s power was at its most menacing in this fight, which allowed him to use his abilities to the fullest extent. Mahoraga is an extremely dangerous being that is almost undefeatable, further proving Sukuna’s sheer strength because he was able to take the shikigami down anyway.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shibuya Incident Opening Made it Even More Brutal

The Shibuya Incident is a devastating arc, but clever changes to Jujutsu Kaisen’s opening made it even more brutal than in the original manga.

Sukuna and Mahoraga’s clash along the streets of Shibuya was a defining moment inJujutsu Kaisen, coming to life even more in the animated adaptation of the series. This scene established Sukuna as a more significant threat than fans might have realized before. Sukuna’s battle techniques at this moment are exceptionally calculated and careful, since he was intentionally preserving Megumi’s body to later use as a vessel in his evil schemes. He managed to beat Mahoraga, who was previously considered unstoppable, all while ensuring Megumi’s safety, which was a phenomenal feat that left viewers in complete awe and wonder.

Sukuna’s Domain Was More Terrifying Than Ever Before in This Arc

Malevolent Shrine’s Full Lethal Power Was Shown Off in This Arc

The full extent of Sukuna’s domain, Malevolent Shrine, was also revealed in this arc. Although it had been unveiled prior to this arc,the Shibuya Incident devoted more time to showing off just how lethal the villain’s domain isand what it can do to Sukuna’s enemies.Malevolent Shrine is not only inescapable, it allows Sukuna guaranteed hits on whoever he is fighting, making survival pretty much impossible for anyone unlucky enough to be targeted by the King of Curses. Mahoraga was unfortunate enough to fall victim to Sukuna’s fatal domain, and was unable to fight back against its deadly power.

Jujutsu Kaisen’sShibuya Incident arc, specifically the Mahoraga and Sukuna fight, are not overrated and actually deserve all of the hype they receive. This battle was highly controversial, and some fans were concerned that the anime version of the monumental battle would not be as impressive as it was in the manga. Whenseason two ofJujutsu Kaisendebuted, some viewers did complain about aspects of the fight, butMAPPA went back and revised the clash for theJujutsu KaisenBlu-ray release, ensuring that a scene this important was absolutely perfect and as manga accurate as it could possibly be.

Jujutsu Kaisenseason two received astounding amounts of praise from fans, as well as numerous awards. Some may believe that the season was overhyped, but the Shibuya Incident arc is a significant part ofJujutsu Kaisen’sstory and the anime portrayed it beautifully.Specifically, Sukuna was at his scariest during this arc.The events of the Shibuya Incident and Sukuna’s actions made it abundantly clear that he was going to become the series' most dangerous villain, far worse than other Cursed Spirits like Kenjaku and Mahito, who had received more screentime than him prior to this.
