Summary
Jujutsu Kaisenis heralded as being one of the best in new-age shonen, renowned by fans for its compelling narrative and captivating characters. As the series has progressed, Gege Akutami’s horror action mangahas featured remarkable moments reminiscent of previous iconic titles in the genre. One notable inspiration forJujutsu Kaisenis the depiction of a major character who bears a striking resemblance to Naruto UzumakifromNaruto.
While it might be easy to assume that Yuji Itadori, the protagonist ofJujutsu Kaisen, echoes the popular Naruto due to their similar roles and purity of character, it is actually the second major character, Megumi Fushiguro, who bears striking similarities to Naruto. Althoughthese comparisons do not make Megumi a complete copy of Naruto, it is likely that Gege Akutami had Naruto in mind while crafting plot points for Megumi Fushiguro.

One of the hidden details that Naruto and Megumi share is related to the last names they inherited. Both Megumi and Naruto take their mothers' last names instead of their fathers', due to complications that remain hidden until later in the narrative. This subtle similarity is just the beginning,as further comparisons between the two characters only deepen their connection.
Megumi Fushiguro Mirrors Key Plot Points With Naruto
Megumi’s Major Plot Points Are Surprisingly Very Close to Naruto’s
Unlike theprotagonist ofJujutsu Kaisen, Megumi Fushiguro has a clear reason for entering the world of Jujutsu, much like Naruto, who has a clear motivation for becoming a Hokage right from the commencement. Though their end goals are different, their strong ambitions set the stage for their journeys. However, a significant resemblance between Megumi and Naruto, besides inheriting their mothers' last names, is the depiction of their fathers.Though Minato and Toji are nothing alike, both played pivotal roles in shaping their sons' futures, setting them up for challenging paths ahead.
On their hardship journey, both Naruto and Megumi are mentored by a teacher who also has some connection to their fathers, which both of them significantly delayed revealing. Eventually, it got to a point where the mentors couldn’t reveal this connection themselves due to complications: Gojo’s death in Megumi’s case and Naruto discovering the truth on his own. Speaking of the mentors, Gege Akutami may have drawn inspiration fromKakashi’s style of sporting an eye patch to conceal his special eye for Megumi’s mentor, Gojo Satoru. Fans noticed this similarity whenJujutsu Kaisenfirst started gaining attention.

Additionally, Megumi’s use of his abilities is also very shinobi-like,specializing insummoning jujutsu to gain help from shadow-like shikigami, similar to Naruto’s shadow-clone jutsu. Lastly, a major plot point that resonates with both characters is the powerful entity they have within them. Megumi bears a demon-like Mahoraga, while Naruto hosts the nine-tailed beast, Kurama. Though subtle, these striking resemblances suggest thatJujutsu Kaisenmay have initially intended Megumi to be its protagonist, a version of Naruto in its own universe. However, Gege Akutami may have later decided to make Megumi the deuteragonist and introduce a unique protagonist in the form of Yuji Itadori, a choice that has worked out very well.
