Summary

One of the most distinctive and unmistakable characteristics ofJoJo’s Bizarre Adventureare its Stands. These Stands serve ascreativemanifestations of heroes' and villains' powers. Stands are as varied and unique as the characters themselves, taking on all kinds of forms and personalities. Each one matches their user perfectly, as well as allowing that character to use their skills in battles. Many people have a favorite Stand, and this even includes the creator of the series himself.

In an interview withAnime News Network,JoJo’s Bizarre Adventurecreator, Hirohiko Araki, revealedhis favorite Stand to draw, as well as his least favorite. The Stand he cherishes the most is a bit unexpected and intriguing, because it is not a main character’s Stand. Shigekiyo Yangu, known as Shigechi, a character from the fourth arc, titled Diamond Is Unbreakable, possesses Araki’s favorite Stand, an ability called Harvest.

Shigechi being carried by his Stand, Harvest, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

One of my favorites stands is Shigechi’s (Shigekiyo Yangu’s) ‘Harvest.’ One that I had a difficult time with (not artistically, but rather in terms of plot and story development) is ‘Deadly Queen’ in Part 4. I felt that I may have made it too strong. It wouldn’t have been a surprise if Josuke was not able to defeat it. - Hirohiko Araki,Anime News Network

His least favorite Stand, because he felt he made it too overpowered within the context of the story and other characters, is Killer Queen, called Deadly Queen in theJoJo’s Bizarre Adventuremanga.

Jojo’s Creator, Hirohiko Araki, Revealed His Favorite & Least Favorite Stands

His Favorite Is Shigechi’s Harvest and His Least Favorite Is Kira Yoshikage’s Killer Queen

Killer Queen is incredibly powerful but, Araki explains, almost too much so, and he wished he had dialed the power level of this Stand back a little bit so that Josuke’s triumph over him would have seemed more realistic. It is truly interesting to hear this insight from the talented author and to listen to him describe his favorite and least favorite stands, and the compelling reasons behind why he feels this way about each of them. The concept of a Stand is incredibly interesting andwhat differentiatesJoJo’sfrom a lot of similar series, giving it a unique and memorable edge.

Shigechi’s Harvest is an often underrated Stand, but useful and powerful nonetheless. The Stand is unlike a lot of others in that it is not one whole being, buttakes the form of a bunch of small creaturesthat work in tandem. About five hundred of these miniscule creatures, similar in appearance to bees, make up Harvest, and they collaborate to pull off Shigechi’s desired attacks. On their own, they are fairly weak, but combined, they can pack a serious punch. The insect-like beings are also impressively clever and deceptive, and their small size allows them to pull off sneaky schemes.

Shigechi’s Harvest Allows Him To Collect Items Effortlessly, Among Other Abilities

Harvest Also Uses Needles and a Clever Storage System, Giving It a Variety of Different Uses

As its name, Harvest, suggests, this Stand isefficient at “harvesting” things, allowing it to gather up items that Shigechi wants. In the series, Shigechi often used his Stand to collect coins. The small beings possess more abilities than just collecting things though. The miniature creatures come equipped with needles, effective for transmitting poison to enemies, and they can also use their bodies as storage for items. Although Shigechi’s Stand may not be the mightiest or most muscular, it is an undoubtedly cool concept with a lot of creativity and thought behind it, explaining why Araki loves the Stand.

Araki’s least favorite Stand, Killer Queen, may come as a tremendous surprise, since it tends to be an absolute fan favorite. Based on the hit song of the same name, released by the band Queen in 1974, this being is truly impressive in its designand Stand abilities. The Stand is a tall, muscular, powerful looking creature with an interestingly cat-like appearance and a light pink color. Killer Queen’s powers are just as fascinating as its appearance. The Stand’s main abilityallows it to transform items into bombs, both people and objects. It utilizes multiple different varieties of bombs in its arsenal.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: How Do Stands Work?

Stands are one of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s most iconic elements, but exactly what a Stand is and how one is obtained isn’t always clear.

Killer Queen Is One of JoJo’s Strongest Stands

Its Power Levels Make Josuke’s Defeat of It Admittedly a Bit Unbelievable

Some ofKiller Queen’s bomb abilities includeSheer Heart Attack, an automatic and heat-seeking bomb,Stray Cat, which uses air bombs, and finally, most impressively of all,Killer Queen Bites the Dust. Kira Yoshikage, the Stand User, was a horrifyingly evil serial killer who ended lives all over Morioh. Because of his awful crimes, the villain did not wantanyone to know who he really was and often hid behind disguises. This variation of Killer Queen was intended to ensure that Kira’s real persona never came to light, so the being killed anyone who discovered who he really was immediately.

Because of how truly mighty Killer Queen is, Araki’s rationale for disliking the character makes perfect sense. Josuke did defeat Killer Queen eventually, but it could be argued that his triumph over the Stand was a bit unrealistic and unbelievable because of how strong the Stand was at the time it was conquered for good. This valid reason to dislike the fearsome Stand is understandable, but this does not negate the fact that it is still an incredibleStand and one of the bestin the series.Killer Queen’s amazing design and intriguing set of powersmake it a unique Stand.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

JoJo’sWould Not Be the Same Without Stands

They Add Much Excitement, Tension, and Entertainment to the Series

Araki’s Stands are some of the best aspects of the entire series, spicing up the battlesbetween heroes and villains to a new level. These almost supernatural beings are beautifully designed, as well as further representing who each of the characters are deep down and allowing them to use their powers. Araki’s insights into the Stands he likes the best and the least are very compelling, especially since they are coming from the creator himself.JoJo’s Bizarre Adventurewould not be the same at all without these otherworldly beings andall the action and excitement they bring to the story.
