What James Gunn’s Mister Freeze Movie Comments Mean For The DCU

Another Batman Villain Could Come To The Big Screen

While Gunn said that there is no truth to the Mr. Freeze movie rumors, the DC Studios co-CEO noted that such a project would not be a bad idea. Gunn’s other comment about the recent wave of DC rumors did not specify the situation of the reported Deathstroke and Bane movie. However, if that project is part of the rumors Gunn said are true or partially true, then a Mr. Freeze movie could be a concrete possibility for the future.

Why DC Recast Carmine Falcone In The Penguin

DC has plans for Robert Pattinson to be the star of a Batman trilogy, and two years after his debut, The Batman’s overarching villain has been recast.

The Deathstroke and Bane film would join the ranks of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker franchise, both focusing on Batman villains. That would set up a firm precedent for a Mr. Freeze film, especially ifJoker: Folie à Deuxand the Deathstroke and Bane film are as successful as 2019’s record-breakingJoker. That said, while Gunn noted that a Matt Reeves Mr. Freeze movie could be a thing in the future, the project is not likely at this time.

Our Take On James Gunn’s Mister Freeze Movie Comments

The Batman Villain Would Be Perfect For A Solo Film

I’m excited about the possibility of Mr. Freeze eventually getting a solo film. While I don’t believe that every Batman villain works for a solo franchise or project,Mr. Freeze’s tragic backstory could make for an excellent one-off movie. Gunn’s comments reveal that there are no plans to make that happen, but the DCU creative chief sees the potential that story could have. As such, I’m hopeful that Gunn will turn to Mr. Freeze at some point, be it for aBatmanmovie in the DCU, a villain in Robert Pattinson’sThe Batmanfranchise, or leading an Elseworlds solo movie.
