TheJurassic Parkmovie franchise has been around since the 90s and has received multiple sequels that have varied in quality and success, with the conflict between humanity and their prehistoric predecessors always ensuring a wild ride at the theater. Butin a little-known comic story that picks up directly after the originalJurassic Park, Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler venture back into the maws of deathto give fans the very first sequel to a juggernaut franchise still going strong today.

After the success of the first film in 1993, Topps Comics developed a trio ofJurassic Parkcomics, with them being some of the only options available for fans hungry for more dinosaur action, as bothThe Lost World: Jurassic Park’s movieand sequel novel were still a few years away.

Jurassic Park: Raptors/Raptors Attack/Raptors Hijack - 1993/1994 (Steve Englehart and Various Artists)

Set three days after the conclusion of the original film, this three-act comic story was hyped as “The Official Sequel toJurassic Park!” and followed fan-favorite protagonists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattleras they help the United States Army clean up Isla Nublar by tracking downthe remaining Velociraptorsdangerously left roaming about. Of course, nothing goes as planned, and after discovering that a shady criminal benefactor named Rafael has tasked hunter George Lawala with capturing live raptors and transporting them off the island, Alan and Ellie begin an adventure that sees them fighting for their lives all over again.

Jurassic Park Introduced Giganotosaurus Way Before Jurassic World Dominion

The Jurassic Park franchise always has some new dinosaur on the loose, with Jurassic World’s Giganotosaurus first premiering in the world of comics!

Clearly not learning anything from their previous experiences, Alan and Ellie argue that they’re still the most well-equipped to deal with the predicament they find themselves in, and after much death and dismemberment by the formerly captive raptors better known as Betty, Alf, and Celia, are able to survive this series in one piece.

Throw in appearances by Ian Malcolm, an inexplicably still breathing Robert “Clever Girl” Muldoon, a sinister sister company to InGen named Biosyn, and a few extra dinosaurs, likeRexy the T-Rex, andit wouldn’t take much to turn these comic-exclusive events into a memorable live-action film.

Jurassic World Took At Least One Idea From These Comics

Thoughit’s unlikely that these comics will ever get a direct live-action adaptation, some of their more interesting elements — like having raptors being trained for nefarious purposes as similarly seen inJurassic World— may still yet get their big screen debut, especially withJurassic Parkgetting yet another sequel in July’s upcomingJurassic World: Rebirth— a film that will hopefully surpass all other sequels released thus far in the comic space or otherwise.Jurassic Park’s comic adventures may not be canon to its film universe, but that shouldn’t stop fans from checking out these silver screen-ready stories, all the same.

Jurassic Park: Raptors/Raptors Attack/Raptors Hijackare available from Topps Comics.
