Sandahas finally released its first trailer, and it’s as great a trailer as one would hope from the next bigshonenanime.Sandatakes place in a dystopian Japan where children have every aspect of their lives controlled by the government, and the only one who can bring them hope is Kazushige Sanda, who has the power to turn into Santa Claus and bring Christmas joy to the world.
Paru Itagaki’sSandais as weird as one would expect a work from the author ofBeastarsto be, and it’s about to become just as big. Earlier this year, it was revealed thatSandawould receive an anime adaptation from Science Saru, and just recently, the first teaser trailer forSandawas released and shows that it will be as visually gorgeous as any other Science Saru project, if not more so.Sanda’s teaser trailer is a perfect way to celebrate the holidays, and it’s sure to be plenty great to watch when it finally premieres in fall 2025.

Sanda’s First Teaser Trailer Shows Why Science Saru Is Perfect For The Anime
Anime Series By Science Saru; Based On The Manga By Paru Itagaki
Science Saru is famous for the surreal nature of their anime, whether in their stories, their visual style, or both, andSandais a manga that’s filled with both, especially in the often bizarre fight scenes that happen in every arc. The teaser trailer leans into that with its unique art style and expressive animation, especially with how it switches between vibrant colors and a black-and-white presentation, so just from that,Science Saru is already doing a perfect job of selling how surreal a storySandais.
Science Saru is perfect for a story likeSanda, and in many ways, it’s better that they got it than something likeBeastars. WhileBeastarsis also a weird story, it’s at least somewhat grounded in its writing, so while a Science Saru adaptation would have looked great, it likely would have failed to truly capture the human nature of its writing. By comparison,Sandanever hides how bizarre it is from the very start, so in many ways,Science Saru is the perfect studio for adaptingSandaand the surrealist writing of Paru Itagaki, in general.
Sanda Has The Chance To Become The Most Iconic Christmas Anime Of All Time
Sandawill be a great anime to watch, and a large part of that is because it’s a Christmas anime. While there are plenty ofgreat Christmas anime episodes and specials, anime centered entirely around Christmas are surprisingly rare, with most of the notable ones being less Christmas stories and more stories just coincidentally set around Christmas. With a story about a kid who turns into Santa Claus trying to bring Christmas back to the world, however,Sanda’s Christmas-centric story can make it the perfect Christmas anime for people to watch, even if it isn’t set explicitly during Christmas.
With how much the narrative revolves around the importance of Christmas, that means the story is also constantly examining the thematic elements of Christmas and Santa Claus like family, joy, and togetherness, soSandawill also work as a Christmas anime because of how much it delves into the true importance of Christmas, all while being a surreal and fun series, as well. Whether as a Christmas anime or a generalshonenanime, there’s plenty to look forward to inSanda, and it’s sure to be a big hit come fall 2025.
