The long-awaited and much-anticipatedWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2is finally in players' hands, and it’s arrived with a plan for the future. Though its predecessor released all the way back in 2011,Space Marine 2comes with all the bells and whistles of modern gaming trends, including a Season Pass available for purchase. Those who opted for the standard edition of the game have the opportunity to buy about a year’s worth of bonus content, but it may only be worth it for those who become dedicated players.
Space Marine 2is polished and tightly designed, but that doesn’t mean launch day is the end of the line. Developer Saber Interactive already has plans to support the third-person shooter/hack-and-slash hybrid through 2025, and theSpace Marine 2roadmapalready shows what players can expect. New missions will come to the Operations game mode, new maps and weapons are on the way, and the first year’s final season will even introduce a horde mode. All those gameplay additions are free updates, however, with more exclusive, but less consequential content coming as part of the Season Pass.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Season Pass Content & Price
Included In The Gold, Ultra, & Collector’s Editions
The game’s first year is broken up into four seasons, with theWarhammer 40K: Space Marine 2Season Pass entitling purchasers to the new content of all four seasons. According to a breakdown on publisherFocus Entertainment’s website, “the Season Pass has been envisioned as a way to enhance your customization for your character,” which is followed by an assurance that all gameplay content like new maps, weapons, and modes will be freely available to everyone who ownsSpace Marine 2.
Purchasing the Season Pass grants players regular new cosmetic content, witheach drop focusing on a different Space Marine chapter. Starting with the game’s launch, Season Pass owners will get an Ultramarines Cosmetic Pack. Season 2, sometime later in 2024, will follow suit with a Dark Angels Cosmetic Pack, as well as a Weapon Skin Pack, and a Champion Pack. Champion Packs grant a unique, full armor set for a single in-game class; the Dark Angels Champion Pack focuses on the Bulwark class.

Those who purchased theWarhammer 40K: Space Marine 2Ultra Edition will also receive the Ultramarines Champion Pack, which contains an armor set and Heavy Bolter skin for the Heavy class.
Seasons 3 and 4 in 2025 will contain similar cosmetic additions: a Champion Pack, Cosmetic Pack, and Weapon Skin Pack for one Space Marine chapter, and a Champion Pack for a second chapter. It’s unclear which chapters are going to be spotlighted in these latter seasons. For those who purchased the standard edition ofSpace Marine 2,the Season Pass is an additional $40, downloadable from each platform’s proprietary store. The Gold, Ultra, and Collector’s Editions have the Season Pass included.
Is Buying The Space Marine 2 Season Pass Worth It?
One Year Of New Cosmetics For $40
Whether theWarhammer 40K: Space Marine 2Season Pass is a worthwhile purchase will depend on the individual player, and how much they enjoy the game’s Operations and Endless War modes– PvE co-op missions and six-versus-six PvP matches respectively. Cosmetic items cannot be used in the main campaign, so if a player doesn’t see themselves regularly returning toSpace Marine 2’s multiplayerover the course of a year, the Season Pass may not be worth it. On the other hand, if players judge the unlockable base-game cosmetics lacking, and find themselves drawn to the multiplayer, then it could be a decent investment.
That said, $40 feels a little steep, even if the Season Pass does entitle purchasers to new content for roughly a year. Such monetization models are often employed by games with a more dedicated live-service model, or conversely, those that plan on dropping more significant content expansions.Space Marine 2lands somewhere in the middle;promising new content for all its players is wonderful, but the Season Pass doesn’t quite have the appeal of a more traditional battle pass, even if such DLC is frequently and rightly criticized for preying on players' fear of missing out.
Another factor that must be considered is that Seasons 3 and 4 of theSpace Marine 2Season Pass are largely unknown quantities. The unspecific cosmetic packs aren’t likely to be major surprises – here’s a hint: the skins will look like Space Marines – but from a consumer standpoint, it’s difficult to buy into something that remains mostly a mystery. With that in mind, however,Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2comes as a complete, fairly robust package, and purchasing additional DLC is the best way to support the game post-launch, and potentially help fund another sequel that doesn’t take another 13 years to release.
