Invinciblemay enjoy an extremely long run on Prime Video. Though it has only seen two seasons so far,Invincibleseason 3is set to premiere on February 6. Unlike the past season, it will not feature a mid-season break and is expected to run through March 13. February 6 will see three episodes released, which should feature some early conflicts between Mark (Steven Yeun) and Cecil (Walton Goggins). After season 3, however, the future of the show remains murky.
At theCollider’s Inside Hollywood panel atCCXP, Robert Kirkman, Tim Miller, and Dave Wilson spoke, whileScreen Rant’s Brennan Klein was in attendance. Kirkman, the creator ofInvincible, spoke out about the upcoming seasons. While they are in the process of developing parts of season 4, they have mapped out a plan that could take the show through season 10. Check out his quote below:
We’ve already written a bunch of season 4… The way [writer Simon Racioppa] and I have [it] mapped out… roughly eight seasons. Could be seven. Could be 10.

The show is based on a comic book thatran for 144 issues from 2003 to 2018. That meant that it took dozens of arcs, multiple spin-off comics, and 25 volumes to finish the story. While a TV show has more space to showcase every narrative element in depth, it will still need numerous episodes to showcase such an expansive adventure. Knowing that, a 10-season arc actually appears to have the potential to faithfully share every element of this story.
It will be difficult to recover enough attention to make a potential season 10 viable.
Invincible’s season 3 trailerhas already shown some plans, but it appears that even Kirkman does not know how the future of the show will be structured. He implied that there could be anywhere from seven to 10 seasons. The total number will likely depend on viewership numbers. If Prime Video begins losing faith in the show’s potential, the narrative may need to be tightened and somewhat rushed. It could also be an issue of narrative growth. If the writers discover a new compelling element, they could spend a season or two exploring something that the comic skipped.

Unfortunately, the show might already be on pace for an unnecessarily long run. Interest inthe superhero genre is already declining, as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has only seen success from a few choice movies, while DC saw numerous failures in the past two years.Invincible’s extended delays already hurt the show’s momentum, given that it took two years for season 2 to be released. Even then, the show featured a mid-season break. Season 3 is poised to break that trend, but it will be difficult to recover enough attention to make a potential season 10 viable.
