SinceMy Hero Academiafeatures hundreds of intriguing heroes and villains, it makes sense thatfans of the series have imagined countless ships between characters. From the adorable canonromance between U.A. classmates Deku and Ochacoto the more unexpected ship between Deku’s mom, Inko, and All Might, there are endless possibilities of potential romantic pairings in the series.
However, not all of these ships are lighthearted and fun, andoneMy Hero Academiaship is actually extremely problematic upon further reflection. Some fans were disappointed thatLeague of Villains membersToga Himiko and Jin Bubaigawara, better known asTwice, did not end up in a relationship, but it would have been extremely inappropriate if they had, and their relationship should not be viewed through a romantic lens.

Twice and Toga Should Not Be a Couple, for Many Reasons
The Disturbing Age Gap Between The Duo Is the Most Important Reason Not to Ship Them
Perhaps the most obvious reason that a romantic relationship between Twice and Toga would be unsuitable is the massive age gap between them. During her first appearance inMy Hero Academia,Toga was 16 years old, and she was only 17 years old at the time of her death during the battle with Ochaco. In stark contrast, Twice is a grown man who is 31 years old. Sincehe is almost double Toga’s age, any relationship between them other than a platonic, big brother or parental bond would be extraordinarily problematic, since the two villains are in completely different stages of life.
My Hero Academia Debunked One of its Most Disturbing Theories in a Truly Dark Way
Twice had a disturbing theory about himself which wasn’t able to be proven until his dramatic death, adding a new layer of tragedy to his demise.
Apart from the most compelling reason not to ship Toga and Twice, the age gap, there are a host of other persuasive arguments against this disturbingMy Hero Academiaship. Both Toga and Twice were unfortunately suffering tremendously throughout the series, as Twice experienced a constant identity crisis as a result of his Double Quirk involving clones, while Toga was struggling with the isolation she felt after her friends and family abandoned her because of her Transform Quirk. Thankfully, they found solace in one another within the League of Villains, but their connection should not be misconstrued as a romance.

Twice and Toga Have More of a Brother-Sister Relationship
Twice Saved Toga From Death Many Times, While Toga Offered Twice Comfort When He Needed It Most
Both Toga and Twice found friendship and support in each other, because although they had vastly different experiences in life, they went through the same solitude and pain as a result of their complicated and sometimes dangerous Quirks.People with Quirks like Toga’s, Twice’s, and Shigaraki’s are often neglected by society, causing organizations like the League of Villains to form in retaliation. Although this group did cause immense harm to innocent people and its own members, the one slight silver lining is that Twice and Toga found camaraderie and acceptance within each other, which is rare for villains to find.
Of the League of Villains members, Toga and Twice are two of the closest. They crack jokes together, stick close to each other on missions, and have each other’s backs no matter what. The bond between them is akin to that of a younger sister and older brother, as Toga relies on Twice for comfort and moral support, while Twice protects her at all costs, even eventually losing his life fighting against the heroes he saw as enemies. On a platonic level, Twice and Toga are one of the most fulfilling, mutually beneficial relationships inMy Hero Academia.

Toga and Twice’s Platonic Bond Is Significant to the Story ofMy Hero Academia
Twice’s Death Shook Toga to Her Core, as She Lost the One Friend She Could Truly Trust
Twice and Toga shared many heartwarming moments together, such as when Twice’s mask fell off and exposed his face, which he always hides as a way to control his Quirk. On this occasion, when his mask was partially ripped open during a fight, Toga came to his rescue, covering his face for him with fabric. Brief scenes like this one express just how deep the bond between Toga and Twice is, and their friendship continued growing closer during the entirety of their time inMy Hero Academia, revealing that even villains can care tremendously for another person and their well-being.
One Small Detail Makes My Hero Academia’s Toga and Ochako Final Scene Even More Heartbreaking
Toga’s last moments in the My Hero Academia anime gave her the chance to prove she was redeemed, confirmed by a small but significant detail.
Sadly, Toga and Twice’s bond ended with Twice’s death at the hands of the Pro Hero Hawks during the Paranormal Liberation War. What initially started as a partnership between Hawks and Twice, meant to benefit them both and foster peace between the League of Villains and Pro Heroes, devolved into Hawks deciding Twice could no longer be trusted and stabbing him to death. This isone ofMy Hero Academia’smost morally ambiguous moments, because although Twice was committing evil acts, he truly believed he was protecting his friends in the League and fighting to keep them safe.

Toga and Twice’s Lives Point Out Issues in Hero Society
They Suffered as a Result of Their Quirks, but Found Solace in Each Other
Twice’s death was felt heavily by everyone in the League of Villains, but especially Toga, his dearest friend in the group. He spent his final minutes at Toga’s side, which was a tragic ending to their previously joyful friendship. Sadly, Toga also died soon afterward, but not before fighting with all her might to avenge her friend. She questioned Hawks' decision to kill Toga, asking him if her friend was “not considered a person,” in Hawks' eyes.Toga and Twice’s deathswere heartbreaking, andopened up conversations about flaws in Hero Society, such as the treatment of those with dangerous Quirks.
“Where do they draw the line? If heroes are supposed to save people, then was Jin not considered a person? Will they kill me too?” - Toga

Overall, Toga and Twice’s relationship is one of the most well-written and enjoyable inMy Hero Academia,as long as it is not viewed in a romantic light. There was so much respect and care between these two villains, and although both of them tolerated so much hurt during their devastatingly short lives, their friendship offered them both brief moments of happiness in the midst of the surrounding turmoil. A romantic relationship between them would be truly concerning and inappropriate because of the age gap, but alsobecause their bond is so meaningful on a platonic level already, as it is depicted inMy Hero Academia.
