Hatenna is the latest Pokémon from the Galar region to arrive inPokémon GO, meaning you can also evolve it into Hattrem and Hatterene once you’ve caught one. Known as the Calm Pokémon in the Pokédex, this Psychic-type creature might not be very impressive by itself, but once it reaches its final evolution, Hatterene, it gains a secondary Fairy-type and a huge Attack stat to boot.
To celebrate the return of the Psychic Spectacular event from September 18 to June 18, 2025, thePsychic Cupwill be returning to the GO Battle League and there will be plenty of themed Pokémon like Ralts and Swirlix to encounter. One of these Pokémon is Hatenna, which is making its grand Pokémon GO debut, although it won’t be the easiest creature to find as it’s quite a rare wild spawn.

How To Get Hatenna In Pokémon GO
There Are Lots Of Ways To Find This Rare Pokémon
The simplest way to catch a Hatenna during the Psychic Spectacular event will be tofind one in the wild, although it’s worth pointing out that it will be a rare spawn, similar to Dreepyin the recent GO All Out event. A good idea is to check the Nearby feature and see if there are any Hatenna-shaped silhouettes near your current location, then go and investigate them.
If you’re struggling to find one in the wild, there are other ways that you can encounter a Hatenna. A guaranteed method is tocomplete the two event-exclusive Collection Challenges, Marvelous Minds: Catch and Marvelous Minds: Evolve. These require you to catch or evolve a range of Pokémon, with a Hatenna reward encounter waiting for you at the end of each Collection Challenge.

Another guaranteed way to find a Hatenna is tocomplete the Psychic Spectacular 2024 Premium Timed Research, which needs to be purchased from the in-game shop for £1.99 (or the equivalent price in your local currency). This features a mix of catching and hatching-themed tasks, with rewards including encounters with Morelull and Hatenna.
It’s also possible to earn an encounter with Hatenna by claiming andcompleting the ‘Win A Max Battle’ Field Research task. This task can only be claimed by spinning PokéStops or Gym Discs during the Psychic Spectacular event. Remember, you can always delete Field Research tasks that you no longer want to make room for more.

Finally, Hatenna will be appearing as a potential hatch from 7km Eggs that have been obtained during the Psychic Spectacular event. This method isn’t guaranteed, as there’s also a chance that you’ll hatch Mawile, Chingling, or Espurr from 7km Eggs during this event.
7km Eggs can only be obtained from Gifts sent to you by friends in Pokémon GO. Make sure you have room in your Egg box before opening a Gift, as you can only carry nine Eggs at a time.

It’s currently unknown how frequently Hatenna will appear in the wild once the Psychic Spectacular event is over, so if you’re eager to add one to your collection and evolve it, make sure you catch them before the event ends. You might struggle to find them after that point.
How To Evolve Hatenna In Pokémon GO
Use Pinap Berries & Transfer Hatenna To Get Candy
You can evolve Hatenna into Hattrem with 25 Candy, and then evolve Hattrem into Hatterene with a further 100 Candy. There are no special items or Buddy tasks required to complete either of these evolution processes, so it’s simply a case of stocking up on enough Hatenna Candy.
While this might sound simple on paper, it could be a lot trickier in practice, as Hatenna isn’t going to be a very common spawn inPokémon GO. Remember to use Pinap Berries when catching them for a Candy boost, and transfer any Hatenna you don’t need for a small Candy reward. you’re able to also set Hatenna as your Buddy Pokémon to find Candy while exploring together. The distance required to find Candy will be displayed on your Buddy page.

Can Hatenna Be Shiny In Pokémon GO?
Not Yet, But It Will Be Added At Some Point In The Future
Unfortunately,Shiny Hatenna is currently unavailable to encounter inPokémon GO. It’s very rare for a new creature to debut alongside its Shiny variation. Developer Niantic tends to hold these back for future events like Community Days or themed celebrations to build up hype and give Trainers another reason to catch them further down the line.
It’s impossible to say when this will happen, but there’s often at least a year between a regular debut and a Shiny debut inPokémon GO, so there could be a while to wait. For now, regular Hatenna will have to do, so get out there and catch as many as you’re able to.
