InThe Mandalorian,Ahsoka Tanomade her shocking live-actionStar Warsdebut while on the hunt forGrand Admiral Thrawn, but how long was she really looking for him?The Mandalorianwas a crucial addition toStar Wars’movies and TV shows, as it not only has become one ofStar Wars’best TV showsbut also signaled a massive turning point in the franchise. The Mandaloriankicked off a focus onthe New Republic timelinethat continues even now, and it introduced a number of key characters.
One such character wasMorgan Elsbeth, who was introduced inThe Mandalorianas a Magistrate on the planet Corvus. It was on Corvus that Ahsoka met Din Djarin for the first time and revealed her intentions on the planet: to find Thrawn. The exact details surrounding this hunt for Thrawn remain somewhat mysterious, though, and connect not only toThe Mandalorianbut also toStar Wars Rebels,Star Wars: Tales of the Empire, andAhsoka.

Star Wars Hasn’t Revealed Much About Ahsoka’s Search For Thrawn Yet
At present, little is known about Ahsoka’s search for Thrawn. When Ahsoka confronted Morgan Elsbeth inThe Mandalorian, she made her intentions quite known by asking Morgan,“Where is your master? Where is Grand Admiral Thrawn?“It’s clear that Ahsoka had followed a trail that led her to Morgan, who did indeed have history with Thrawn.Tales of the Empirerevealed that Morgan had worked for the Empire and had direct contact with Thrawn, in fact.
Tales of the Empirerevealed that Morgan had worked for the Empire and had direct contact with Thrawn.

TheRebelsfinalealso indicated that Ahsoka’s story was headed in this direction, as the show’s epilogue saw Ahsoka reconnect with Sabine Wren and agree to search for Ezra together. As Ezra had disappeared along with Thrawn, the two searches were inherently linked(and it’s possible Ahsoka was much more invested in finding Thrawn than Ezra, not because she didn’t care about Ezra but because Thrawn was such a massive threat). It wasn’t until theAhsokashow that the outcome of this search was finally confirmed.
Star Wars Rebels Timeline Explained: When Each Season Takes Place
From Ezra and the crew’s first meeting to Ahsoka and Sabine’s reunion, here’s when each Star Wars Rebels season takes place in the Star Wars timeline.
Ahsoka Likely Began Her Search After Parting Ways With Sabine Wren
In theAhsokashow, not only was Thrawn finally found (as was Ezra) on Peridea, but also, additional details were revealed about Ahsoka and Sabine’s complex dynamic, which had direct implications for Ahsoka’s hunt for Thrawn. FollowingRebels, Ahsoka surprisingly took Sabine on as a Jedi apprentice, despite there being little indication that Sabine was Force-sensitive in that show. Sadly, the two had a massive falling out, and Sabine’s Jedi training was put on hiatus.
It’s likely Ahsoka searched for Thrawn during this period, following the dissolution of her master and apprentice relationship with Sabine. Ahsoka obviously struck out on her own after this falling out, as she was working alone inThe Mandalorian. With her ‘failed’ attempt to train a Padawan behind her, Ahsoka must have redoubled her efforts to track down and stop Thrawn. It’s possibleAhsokaseason 2 will reveal more about this search, but, for now, it seemsAhsoka Tano’shunt for Thrawn depicted inThe Mandalorianlikely began just after she and Sabine Wren went their separate ways.
