Summary
Star Warshas taken audiences by surprise with exclusive footage ofThe Mandalorian & Grogushown at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, particularly because it features the return ofThe Mandalorian’s iconic ship from seasons 1 and 2: theRazor Crest. The Mandalorian & Grogufootage description from D23is packed with tons of reveals, from the return ofGarazeb “Zeb” Orrelios- who previously cameoed inThe Mandalorianseason 3 - to some incredible action with AT-ATs. Perhaps most surprising, however, is the return of theRazor Crest.
TheRazor CrestwasDin Djarin’s faithful vessel throughoutThe Mandalorianseasons 1 and 2, acting as a home for the Mandalorian bounty hunter who was always on the go. That made its ultimate fate in season 2 even more tragic, even after Din earned theNaboo N-1 starfighteras his new ride. As a starfighter, this new ship of Din’s simply isn’t suitable for family life nor bounty hunting, both of which are things Din is returning to inThe Mandalorian & Grogu. This has all led to theRazor Crest’s unexpected return - but how is this possible?

Everything We Know About The Mandalorian & Grogu Movie
The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.
The Razor Crest Was Obliterated By Moff Gideon (& Irreparable)
There Was No Chance of Saving the Ship
The circumstances of theRazor Crest’s destruction inThe Mandalorianmade it clear that there would be no fixing the ship this time. After a series of unfortunate events that led to theCrestbeing in rough shape throughout most ofThe Mandalorianseason 2, the vessel was ultimately fixed and made good-as-new by Greef Karga’s mechanics on Nevarro just before it was shot by Moff Gideon’s light cruiser. This blast completely obliterated theCrest, turning the once-trusty vessel into dustin just a single moment’s time.
The terms of this destruction made it obvious thattheCrestwas never supposed to be repaired again. This is what led to Din accepting the N-1 starfighter that Peli Motto had for him on Tatooine; he knew that he needed to accept whatever he could get, especially since he was aching to reunite with Grogu again atLuke Skywalker’s Jedi Temple on Ossus. It seemed as if all hope for another replacementRazor Crestwas lost - until now.

Din Djarin Has The Razor Crest Again In The Mandalorian & Grogu
Somehow, the Razor Crest Returned
Despite its season 2 destruction, theRazor Crestis back. The vessel is seen flying through space inThe Mandalorian & Grogubefore a quick glimpse of its cockpit is shown, though interestingly enough, it’s Zeb Orrelios in the pilot’s seat rather than Din. The Mandalorian and his adopted-son-and-apprentice are both standing behind Zeb, accepting a message of good luck from the rebel-turned-New Republicranger. That’s all there is to theCrest’s return thus far, but it’s already quite promising.
With Din confirming in The Mandalorian season 3’s ending that he would be returning to bounty hunting on behalf of the New Republic in the future, having a ship like the Crest is absolutely necessary for him.

It was only a matter of time, then, for Din to get a bigger ship, but having theCrestback is certainly a welcome surprise.
The Mandalorian & Grogu: Everything You Need To Know Before Star Wars' Next Movie
From The Mandalorian season 1 to now, Din Djarin and Grogu have had many adventures that are important to know before their first Star Wars movie.
Din Djarin Must Have Somehow Found A New Razor Crest
This Isn’t the Same Ship Seen in The Mandalorian Seasons 1 & 2
Clearly, this isn’t the same exactRazor CrestDin Djarin once owned in earlier seasons ofThe Mandalorian. While the nameRazor Crestspecifically is tied closely to Din’s own ship, it’s actually just a part of the ship’s full model name - an ST-70 classRazor CrestM-111 Assault Ship. Many ships inStar Warstake on their own names that are separate from the ship’s model, but that isn’t the case with Din’s. This means it’s easy for Din to have a newRazor Crestthat still looks just like his old one, with the same exact name.
What’s unclear at this time is whether Din actually owns thisRazor Crestor not. It looks like it may belong to Zeb himself or perhaps the greater New Republic fleet, which is curious considering it predates both the New Republic and the Galactic Empire. It seems quite likely that this ship will end up becoming Din’s somehow, given the strong association between the two and Din’s own affinity forRazor Crestships - and his previous insistence inThe Book of Boba Fettabout getting a new one - but only time will tell whatThe Mandalorian & Groguhas in store.
