Before today, only twoupcomingStar WarsTV showswere confirmed:Andorseason 2, which begins releasing later this month, andAhsokaseason 2. Now,Tales of the Underworldhas been added to this list, and, surprisingly, it’s just around the corner.
Tales of the Underworldwill release on July 27, 2025, and so far,Star Warshas confirmed that not only Ventress but also Cad Bane will be returning to theStar Warsscreen. This comes on the heels ofVentress' return inStar Wars: The Bad Batch, which had already raised questions about whether the former Sith assassin to Count Dooku could now be on the light side of the Force. TheTales of the Underworldtrailer may suggest an answer, and it sets up a thrilling plot to come inTales of the Underworld.

Tales Of The Underworld Is Pitting Asajj Ventress Against An Inquisitor
The Trailer Seems To Show Ventress Protecting A Force-Sensitive Youngling
In the trailer forTales of the Underworld, Ventress can be seen standing in front of a youngling, her yellow lightsaber ignited to protect him. Opposite her stands one of the Imperial Inquisitors. During this point intheStar Warstimeline, the Inquisitors were actively on the hunt not only forsurvivors of Order 66but also for any Force-sensitive younglings. Depending on the timing, which isn’t yet clear, this child could be either.
Star Wars: All 16 Inquisitors In Canon Explained
Star Wars' Inquisitors were Darth Vader’s elite death squad of Jedi-killing dark side users. Who were these Imperial agents and what were their fates?
In either case,Ventress will evidently be facing off against this Inquisitor, which is sure to be a brilliant showdown. Once Count Dooku’s personal assassin, Ventress is an incredibly skilled duelist, having gone toe-to-toe with the likes of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi inStar Wars: The Clone Wars. It will genuinely be a thrill to see this battle, and this moment from the trailer suggests Ventress’Star Warsstory is going in an absolutely amazing direction.

Is Asajj Ventress Actually Saving Jedi During The Dark Times?!?
All Signs Currently Point To This Incredible Arc
Tales of the Underworldsets up the very real possibility that Ventress will be protecting Force-sensitive children during this era. This is also supported by her appearance inThe Bad Batch. Not only did Ventress appear inThe Bad Batchwielding a yellow lightsaber—which, based onlightsaber colors and their meanings inStar Wars, suggests she’s on the light side of the Force—but also, she was there to test Omega’s Force-sensitivity. This certainly suggests she’s taken on that role.
Given theObi-Wan Kenobishow’s revelation thatthe Hidden Path, which shuttled Force-sensitive beings and surviving Jedi to safety, was very much at play throughout the Dark Times, it’s entirely possible Ventress became involved with these efforts. If that is part of the storyTales of the Underworldtells, I will be absolutely delighted. This would also build upon another incredible canon Ventress story that few may know.

Dark Disciple Set Up A Versus Match I Never Thought I’d See
This Face-Off Is Only Possible Because Of Ventress' Resurrection
One arguably underrated canonStar Warsbook,Star Wars: Dark Disciple, written by Christie Golden, primed Ventress for a story (and playing a role such as this one) in the Dark Times, after several shocking twists in her arc. InDark Disciple, Ventress actually joins Quinlan Vos on a mission to assassinate Count Dooku shockingly at the behest of the Jedi Council members themselves. While they are obviously unsuccessful, as this story takes place before Anakin kills Dooku inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, multiple other key events take place.

For one,Ventress is shown to seemingly be on the light side of the Force, or, at minimum, she sees the flaws of the dark side. She is even the one attempting to pull Vos back to the light after Dooku tortured and corrupted him. Sadly, these very efforts to save Vos lead to Ventress' death. While that may sound like another confusingStar Warsresurrection, this story actually makes more sense than other resurrections, such as Palpatine’s, as Ventress' body was left in the Waters of Life, enabling her to come back to life.
Ventress' body was left in the Waters of Life, enabling her to come back to life.

It is with this redemption and her resurrection through the Waters of Life that Ventress is able to return inTales of the Underworldand, presumably, be the one to fight against the Inquisitors. As a massive fan of Ventress (admittedly even before she seemingly turned to the light), I cannot wait to see this showdown. Although I, like most everyone else, was completely caught off guard by this majorStar Warsannouncement, I could not be more excited to see Asajj Ventressreturn toStar Warsonce more inStar Wars: Tales of the Underworld.
