Warning! This article contains spoilers for Severance season 2, episode 2.
Severanceseason 2 just made the implications of Helly sabotaging Helena Eagan’s speech even worse than they already were. In season 2,Severance’s cast of charactersis much more interesting than it was in season 1. The reason for this is the deeper exploration ofSeverance’s Outie personalities as opposed to their Innies, primarily shown via Helena Eagan’s story. The twist that Helly R’s Outie is a member ofSeverance’s Eagan family treewas one of the biggest developments of season 1, making season 2’s story extra compelling.

InSeveranceseason 2, episode 2, Helena was shown running damage control for Lumon after Helly R’s outburst at the company’s gala event. Helly R woke up outside of work, telling those at the Lumon gala that the severed employees are tortured and miserable, with Helena taking the fall for this inSeveranceseason 2. The heir to Lumon told the public that her outburst was a result of being drunk while on medication for a skin rash and that it was simply a joke, a lie that could cause bigger problems than first thought for her inSeveranceseason 2.
Helena Taking The Blame For Helly’s “Outburst” Sabotages Her Chances Of Becoming Lumon’s Next CEO
Helena’s Future May Be In Jeopardy
The problem this could cause relates to Helena’s business-based future. Evidently, Helena is being groomed to become the next Lumon CEO after her father, Jame Eagan, retires. After the events ofSeveranceseasons 1 and 2, this could be notably more difficult for her. After all, her reputation will likely be damaged not only in the eyes of the public but also Lumon’s investors and mysterious board after her apparent outburst. The lie that this outburst came due to intoxication will likely only worsen her reputation.
If Helena truly desires to rise Lumon’s ranks and become CEO after her father,Severanceseason 2, episode 2 will surely harm her chances. It is worth noting that Helena could still become the heir to her father, especially if she handles the issues with the Innies well in the future episodes of season 2. Nonetheless, there is no denying she has an uphill battle ahead of her after Helly R’s words and the blame she took for them.

A big element ofSeverancethus far has been the public reception of severance. It has been made clear that the severed procedure is not viewed with much love at all, and that the general population looks down upon people who have become severed. This was evident inSeveranceseason 2, episode 2 with Dylan’s job interview, in which the interview switched up on him as soon as learning Dylan was severed. With the reveal that Helena Eagan is severed, she could further harm her positionas Lumon’s potential CEO.
How Severance Works (& Why It’s Terrifying)
Severance season 1 slowly revealed how Luman Industries' severance process worked, with each new revelation being more sinister than the previous one.
If the public is unwilling to accept regular people like Dylan as a severed, it is unlikely that they would accept or trust a severed CEO of the most powerful company in the world. Moreover, Helena’s outburst alone could lead people to believe it was Helly R speaking that night, thus making the perception of severed workers even poorer due to the apparent torture they suffer. All in all, Helena is in a very precarious position inSeveranceseason 2 which is much worse than expected after season 1’s finale.
