Green Lantern Has Fallen on Hard Times

Hal Jordan Has Been Betrayed by the Green Lantern Corps and the United Planets

Green Lantern#14 is also anAbsolute Powertie-in. Jordan’s imprisonment is the result of an agreement between the United Planets and Amanda Waller,Absolute Power’sarchitect. Waller, in a final bid to rid Earth of its super-powered population, has unleashed a multi-front war against them, taking their powers and smearing their reputations. TheGreen Lantern Corps came under the controlof the United Planets recently, who reshaped them into an army of bootlickers. Thaaros, the head of the UP, struck a deal with Waller: his Green Lanterns would not interfere in the affairs of Earth.

However, Jordan is, and always will be, a hero, and he cannot stand on the sidelines while Waller plunges Earth into an oppressive police state.

The United Planets recognized that Hal Jordan was a threat and took steps to neutralize him. He was stripped of his position in the Green Lantern Corps and exiled to Earth. However, Jordan is, and always will be, a hero, and he cannot stand on the sidelines while Waller plunges Earth into an oppressive police state. Without his ring, Jordan was forced to seek other means of fighting back. The Toyman, a longtime Superman foe, relies heavily on dangerous gadgets disguised as toys. How Green Lantern got the flash grenades is never revealed, but now he is in Toyman’s debt.

Green Lantern Is Being Forced Into a Corner

Allying With Villains Is Not a Good Idea For Anyone, Especially Green Lantern

Unfortunately, using weapons designed by a murderous villain may not be Green Lantern’s proudest moment, but it shows how desperate he is in the face of Waller’s machinations. While the flash grenades were non-lethal, many of Toyman’s gadgets are, and he has killed people in the past. Hal would stop short of using the more lethal parts of the Toyman’s armory, but the longer he goes without his ring, the more desperate he may become.Green Lanternhas never found himself in a position such as he does now, where he has been forced to use weapons designed by villains.
