Summary
Ghostsshowrunner Joe Port addresses whether the sitcom could ever have a crossover with the original BBC series that inspired it, as well as his hesitations about bringing the two casts together. The original series saw a young couple inherit a stately, decrepit home from a recently deceased relative, only for Allison (Charlotte Ritchie) to see long-past residents of the land after a near-death experience, leading to plenty of hijinks. The US incarnation was developed by CBS, with Rose McIver taking on the role of Sam, who goes through a similar experience and begins to see her own ghostly acquaintances.
WithGhostsgearing up to release its fourth season, Port opened up toTV Linewhether there could be a crossover between the US series and the recently concluded UK series. While Port is eager to see the original UK series' cast of specters all appear on the series at some point, he was unsure whether an in-universe character appearance would be feasible or ideal, even with Allison and Mike’s (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) human characters. Check out Port’s full explanation below:

“At some point, we’d like to have them all on, eventually. But as far as [Charlotte Ritchie and Kiell Smith-Bynoe] as Alison and Mike, that sort of doesn’t compute for us because it feels kind of strange… It just seems too similar, or something, to Sam and Jay. Like, they live in a house where there’s also a pants-less ghost and a guy with an arrow through his neck….”
Ghosts USAlready Has A Perfect Crossover Method
One Ghosts UK Cast Member Has Set a Good Precedence For Future Appearances
For theGhostsUK’s undead cast, any kind of appearance by their in-universe characters would be impossible to do, due to the UK series' in-universe rules. With ghosts unable to leave the location where they died even if it wasn’t their home in life, it would be impossible to see any of the Button House ghosts make their way across the Atlantic to cross paths with their US counterparts. Nevertheless,Ghosts UShas already seen one way to cross over the UK cast with the ongoing CBS series.
Not only is Baynton’s appearance a fun nod to the original series, but has a fun twist inspired by one of his character’s arcs

WithGhostsseason 2, Matthew Baynton appeared as an actor involved in filming a recreation of Pete’s (Richie Moriarty) death, a scenario hisUK version character Thomas Thornehad to grapple with in the BBC series' first season when a regency drama about his in-life rival is being filmed at Button House. Not only is Baynton’s appearance a fun nod to the original series, but it has a fun twist inspired by one of his character’s arcs. As such, an appearance by Ritchie and Smith-Bynoe should perhaps also be a twist to their UK roles.
Ghosts: 10 Things The CBS Show Can Learn From The BBC Original
CBS’s version of Ghosts has just begun and while it has been solid, it could learn a lot from looking at the original BBC iteration.
While no in-universe character returns may be in the cards, fans of both incarnations ofGhostsmay be pleased to see that Port hopes to bring many of the cast members over for the US series. While casual viewers may overlook the cameos, it is a perfect way to subtly pay tribute to the UK series without needing to know both shows. And withGhosts UKending with season 5in 2023, it may be easier to involve members of the UK cast in future seasons beyond season 4.
