Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to redeem one of 20th Century Fox’s most wasted mutant superhero teams following the cast announcement for 2026’s upcomingAvengers: Doomsday. Marvel confirmed the first 27actors confirmed to be returning inAvengers: Doomsdayat the end of March, and this included several members of Fox’s original X-Men team. While it will be great to see these characters back in action, there are many other neglected heroes from Fox’sX-Menfranchise that also deserve to get redemption in theMCU.

Joining members of the Avengers, the Thunderbolts and the Fantastic Four inAvengers: Doomsdaywill be Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn and Alan Cumming from Fox’s originalX-Mentrilogy, as well as Channing Tatum fromDeadpool & Wolverine. There are, however, many other actors that haven’t yet been confirmed, including the likes of Famke Janssen, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman and more. Some of Fox’s smallerX-Menfranchise stars would also be great to see again, including those from a seriously wasted superhero team.

I Want Marvel To Bring Back Fox’s New Mutants In Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Could Bring Back The New Mutants In The MCU’s Phase 6

The prospect ofFox’s classic X-Men team returning, perhaps joining forces with Magneto and Mystique to fight Doctor Doom, is hugely exciting, but we want to see even more mutants from Earth-10005 inAvengers: Doomsday. This includes the members of the New Mutants team, who made their live-action debut in 2020’s eponymousThe New Mutants, the final installment in Fox’sX-Menfranchise, which was rushed to completion and released after Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. These mutant characters from Marvel Comics deserve live-action redemption more than most.

The New Mutants came together to take on the Smiley Men and the Demon Bear in a hospital run by the Essex Corporation. Comprising Sunspot, Magik, Wolfsbane, Cannonball and Mirage, the New Mutants team had the potential to be dark, grounded and gritty, an exciting installment to Fox’sX-Menfranchise, but this was not the case. Fox and the upheaval surrounding Disney’s buyout meant thisteam was completely wasted inThe New Mutants, so it would be fantastic to see them brought back alongside more established X-Men members inAvengers: Doomsday.

Bringing Back The New Mutants Can Finally Do The 2020 Movie & Its Characters Justice

Fox Failed The New Mutants In Their Live-Action Debut

The New Mutantswas an abject failure for Fox and Disney at the very end of the once-successfulX-Menmovie franchise. The movie grossed only $49.2 million worldwide on a budget of up to $80 million, and has an approval rating of only 36% onRotten Tomatoes. The New Mutantswas a casualty of Disney’s acquisition of Fox, which was finalized in 2019, but these iconic Marvel characters deserved more than being just a rushed job. Some of these casting choices (not all of them) were excellent, so Marvel Studios has the perfect opportunity to redeem them inAvengers: Doomsday.

I Still Can’t Get Over How Bad 2020 Fumbled A Perfect X-Men Movie Setup

In 2020, when most audiences were not going to the movies, a much delayed X-Men spinoff was released that failed to connect with audiences.

It would be brilliant to see Anya Taylor-Joy and Charlie Heaton, both huge stars, reprise their roles in the MCU proper, whileMaisie Williams' portrayal of Wolfsbanewas also praised. These actors deserve more time with their characters, perhaps even getting the chance to make them more comic-accurate, more heroic and potentially even setting the stage to mark their permanent returnsas these heroes in the MCU. MCU-ifying these characters inAvengers: Doomsdaycould show just how great they are, and allow them to finally get justice after Fox’s failures.
