Warning! SPOILERS about Fire Country season 3, episode 8 ahead.
Bode’s challenging first day as a firefighter highlighted how his story could mirror Manny’s for the worst inFire Countryseason 3. Getting released unexpectedly atFire Countryseason 2’s ending after earning an extraordinary conduct credit madeBode realize his future included firefighting, whichFire Countryseason 3was dedicated to achieving. While the obstacles were many in Bode’s path to pass the Cal Fire training for former inmate firefighters, to the point Camden Casey would have failed him if it wasn’t for their last call together,Bode officially became a firefighter inFire Countryseason 3, episode 7.
Before his first shift,Fire Countryseason 3showed Bode going to Three Rock to express gratitude to Manny, without whom Bode becoming a firefighter in Edgewater would have never been possible. The moment between mentor and mentee saw Manny and Bode both look to the future, with the first focusing on his parole request and the second on his firefighting career as a free man. However,Bode’s first shift quickly prompted him to repeat his usual mistakes, hinting at his talk with Mannynot being successful in motivating Bode andsuggesting the wrong methods for Bode to move on.

Manny Teaches Bode The Wrong Lessons In Fire Country
Manny Insists Bode Should Bury His Past But That Didn’t Work For Manny
Manny’s belief Bode should bury his past didn’t appear inFire Countryseason 3, episode 8’s beginning for the first time. Indeed, when Eve and the rest of Three Rock’s inmate firefighters wanted to cook the firefighting camp spread to celebrate Bode’s graduation,Manny vehemently opposed it, as he believed it would have sent the message there was something to miss about Three Rock. Manny wanted Bode to think about the future once he got released, butreturning to Three Rock as an inmate prompted Manny to focus on his inability to bury his past, which got him incarcerated again.
Bode’s Choice In Fire Country Season 3’s Midseason Finale Showed Why He Doesn’t Deserve His Success
1 constant in Bode’s firefighting was his disregard for orders if he didn’t agree with them, making it a problem for his colleagues at Station 42.
Manny’s advice to Bode came from his deep certainty there is nothing to look back to in Three Rock and that the only way to move on is to seal the past firmly behind. Manny’s own approach throughoutFire Countryshowed this belief, as he always repeated how meaningful a program like Three Rock’s was, which turned him into a new man after his mistakes landed him in jail. However, burying the past didn’t work for Manny, who gave in to his impulsivity when he punched Luke Leone in front of the governor, leading him back to the fire camp.

Bode Making The Same Mistakes Repeatedly Means He Isn’t Learning
Bode Keeps On Disobeying Orders & Promising The Impossible, Endangering Him & Others
Bode is stuck on a similar pathway to Manny’s, where they both believe to have moved on before finding themselves repeating the same mistakes. WhileBode seemingly accepted his past inFire Countryseason 3, he found himself repeating the same behaviors that put him in danger as an inmate firefighter. Disobeying orders as an inmate firefighter could have led to Bode’s demotion in the best circumstances and it almost killed Bode twice.Even as a Cal Fire trainee, Bode didn’t learn to follow orders, with Camden Casey wanting to fail him inFire Countryseason 3 because of that.
Bode couldn’t see how much things had deteriorated, not being objective because of his promises to Brian, which almost cost his and Audrey’s lives.

Fire Countryseason 3, episode 8made Bode’s pattern evident. Despite promising Audrey to focus on the future,Bode made his usual mistakes when he took to heart Brian’s story and promised him they would protect his house at all costs. Bode couldn’t see how much things had deteriorated, not being objective because of his promises, and went back to his typical behavior of ignoring direct orders, which almost cost his and Audrey’s lives inFire Countryseason 3’s midseason finale. This cemented the realization Bode hadn’t learned from his mistakes, no matter his speeches about turning a new leaf.
How Bode Can Ensure That He Doesn’t End Up Like Manny In Fire Country
Changing Their Ways Can Help Both Bode & Manny In Fire Country
Manny’s negative mindset inFire Countryseason 3 stops him from moving on, even if his talk with Cole in season 3, episode 8 hinted at his intention to do the work. Bode’s brush with death and, most importantly, his culpability if something happened to Audrey after his decision to stay almost killed them, can finally force him to change his ways. Not running away from his past and learning from his mistakes is indeed the only way Bode can finally improve as a firefighter, and being inspired by Audrey’s improvements can make this happen inFire Countryseason 3.
