Summary
Leland Townsend (Michael Emerson) may have had a massive victory inEvilseason 4, but he may face real consequences soon. The show, which stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi, is in its final season, as it will be coming to an end on August 22. Co-creators Robert and Michelle King have been working tirelessly to close up the many loose ends asEvilseason 4quickly builds towards the show’s conclusion, and Leland finally made a shocking move that saw him kill Sheryl.
In an interview withScreen Rant, Emerson opened up about Sheryl’s death and the effect that it will have on Leland’s life. While he did have a short-term victory,he was recently arrestedand is facing the long-term consequences of his actions. As much as Leland thinks that he can outplay his enemies, he will still need to fight the legal system. Check out Emerson’s full quote below:

I guess that’s a notion that is still dawning on me. I know at the end of that fight that a third actor comes into play and saves Leland. But I’m still not certain how Sheryl leaves this life. But I guess it does seem a bit of a victory for Leland, in the short term, but he’s not out of the woods. And finally, the legal system has him in their hands. And maybe he’s not the showrunner that he thinks he is.
Leland’s Victory Is Not Complete
Sheryl’s Death Could Come Back To Haunt Him
Even after killing Sheryl,Leland’s future remains a mystery. After his arrest, he is assigned a public defender and sent to court, and he quickly expresses his displeasure with his lawyer. After discovering that the man is actually a demon, however, Leland retains his defender and turns his attention to other matters. With just three episodes left, Leland and the demon will have few opportunities to complete their evil plans, but they will undoubtedly face off in a battle with bigger stakes than a criminal trial.
10 Burning Questions Evil Season 4’s Final Episodes Need To Answer
The Paramount+ show Evil will soon conclude with a four-episode season 5. There are many unfinished stories that need answers in the series finale.
Leland was behind Sheryl’s devastating death, as a demonic ally presumably threw the redemptive Sheryl off of a balcony. While Sheryl earned her redemption by baptizing the baby Timothy, it is unlikely that Leland will ever have an interest in moving away from evil. His backstory, which revealed that Leland was nothing more than a “friend of the Vatican” at one time, is unlikely to bring him back to the side of good.Leland is once more working with demonsand attempting to earn the devil’s loyalty, and asEvilis coming to an end, his ending may be definitive.

His plans still involve Timothy, as he is still running under the assumption thatthe boy’s baptism should not prevent him from rising as the Antichrist. Should he be raised poorly,Timothy could still become an evil Antichrist. With the demons supporting Leland once again, he may still escape legal consequences, though it may depend on Kristen’s reaction to Timothy. As theEvilseries finale approaches, Leland’s future is as questionable as the Antichrist’s.
