Summary
Leland’s arrest will not be for naught inEvilseason 4, but his actor is not quite ready to reveal what it might mean. With the final season underway, the show is expected to end on August 22. There are only three episodes left before Leland (Michael Emerson), Kristen (Katja Herbers), David (Mike Colter), and Ben (Aasif Mandvi) see their stories come to an end. While there is still hope thatanother streaming platform could pick upEvil, the final season is meant to wrap up some of the plot lines. Leland’s arc features one of the conclusive stories.
After Sheryl’s death, Leland finds himself behind steel bars as he wrestles with the legal system. Emerson was recently interviewed byScreen Rantabout Leland’s final arc, and he is not quite sure what Leland’s plan will be. Emerson believes thatLeland has faced the threat of the law before, but he expects that a mysterious ally could help him escape the consequences of his actions. Check out his full quote below:

Well, I think it’s probably not Leland’s first confrontation with the American legal system. So, I think he has ideas about who has the upper hand in a courtroom. I think he’s counting on the cavalry swooping in to save him. I don’t know what the nature of that cavalry would be, but he’s expecting help from some quarter.
Part Of Leland’s Scheme Has Already Been Revealed
Leland Will Never Accept True Justice
In a shocking reveal,Evilseason 4 showcased Leland’s backstory for the first time. The show explained that Leland was originally training to become a priest and even intended to be a “friend to the Vatican”. It is a far fall to see him become so enamored with demons and the Devil, especially considering that he now views himself as directly responsible for creating the Antichrist. Even withTimothy having been baptized,Leland still believes that his evil schemes remain in progress, and has shown few signs of ever even hoping to seek redemption.
With Leland’s refusal to bend, it is natural that the character would hope to escape prison in one way or another. The forensic psychologist often works to dodge responsibility or danger, and while he is willing to see others killed and to manipulate everyone around him,he has never been one to embrace facing his actions. He has stood out as one of the cruelest members of the cast, as the thought of eating the hearts of his enemies was a genuine comfort to him, and even found a therapist in a demon.

Evil stars Katja Herbers, Mike Colter & Aasif Mandvi discuss the new cases in season 4, some of the new demons, and their thoughts on the Antichrist.
After discovering that his public defender is secretly a demon, Leland now thinks that the darker world remains on his side, and he may very well be correct. Given that Emerson expects that it is not his first confrontation with the law, it is likely that he is using a strategy that they have already put into action before. Leland certainly has a plan to escape, and it will fall to the heroes ofEvilseason 4to avenge Sheryl, to protect Timothy, and to keep Leland from escaping custody.
