Ark: Survival Ascendedintroduces the Archelon, a new creature coming to the game in a rapidly approaching update. Like much content inASA, Archelon was originally a fan-made monster. It debuted inArk Additions, a mod that greatlyexpanded the creature roster in the originalArk. A hard-shelled underwater titan, it’s a versatile creature, with a variety of different features that make it aworthwhile addition to anyArkmap.

Now, though,Archelon is officially coming toArk: Survival Ascended, the enhanced remake of the first game, in an update this fall. And that update is a lot closer than anyone expected. Here’s everything players need to know about Archelon before it comes toASA.

What To Expect From Archelon

Part Mount, Part Companion, Part Farm

ASA’s new Archelon resembles a giant, prehistoric sea turtle, characterized by its hard shell speckled with hundreds of razor-sharp spines. As one would likely guess based on its imposing appearance, the Archelon is a powerful ally in battle. With a health pool as deep as the waters it inhabits, and immunity to both Stun and Torpidity,it’s a worthwhile tame, especially when playing in small groups. That’s because, owing to its enormous size, the Archelon can fit four players on its back at once.

Since players can’t use rifles or bows underwater, they’re better off equipping crossbows and harpoon launchers when riding an Archelon into battle.

The Archelon’s sole weaknesses are its low speed (particularly on land), its wide turning radius, and its low melee damage, so it’s not a creature that lends itself well to a quick or subtle approach. Those who would rather overwhelm a rival player group or boss dino with shocking force, though, would do well to have an Archelon on their side. Armed with ranged weapons, four players astride an Archelon become a sort of living, breathing tank, rolling over anything and everything in their path.

10 Ways Ark: Survival Ascended Is Better Than Ark: Survival Evolved

Ark: Survival Ascended is more than just an enhanced version of the Survival Evolved, with plenty of improved features and new mechanics.

Besides that, an Archelon can also serve as a moveable feast. Its shell makes the perfect habitat for algae, which grows freely wherever it roams. Players can harvest the algae, which can then be fed to herbivores or crafted into sushi. As the latestArkCommunity Crunchseems to imply, the algae also produces a constant supply of oxygen, allowing players to breathe while they ride an Archelon underwater.

When Archelon Releases

Archelon Comes To ASA This October

Archelon will be added toArk: Survival Ascendedin an update on August 04, 2025, just a day away at the time of writing. That release date means it’s not expected to coincide withany majorArkDLC- this will probably be a relatively small update, containing mainly the new dino and a handful of tweaks/fixes.

The Community Crunch in which Archelon was revealed forASAdoes, however, state that some of its features may be changed for the final launch, soASEplayers may not recognize everything about the creature when it comes to the reimagined version. Still, with Archelon coming toArk: Survival Ascendedon October 16, it won’t take long to find out.
